THANK YOU – CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE
We hosted our Christmas Party for the Angel Tree families on Saturday in the Worship Center.  The “angels” had a great time decorating Christmas cookies and a gingerbread house.  The collapse of the heavily-decorated gingerbread house  did nothing to diminish the excitement and fun!  The parents collected gifts while the kids enjoyed refreshments, Christmas music, and making new friends.   A special thank you to Jackie Simpson, for coordinating the party, and to all the others, who volunteered to help entertain the children, and provide refreshments.  Cokes Chapel helped make Christmas extra special this year for eighteen children, in our community, by providing  gifts and a fun day.  Thank you for your generosity and love during this joyful season!

CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED
Our Office administrator, Gail Stone had surgery this past Wed., and will be out of the office for a period of time recovering. The church office will be closed until January 3, 2019. Should you have a need for access to the office, contact Pastor Lisa or Larry Huckaby.

COWETA COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS program delivers meals to elderly homebound people in need. We have had a Cokes Chapel Meals on Wheels team composed of 10 to 12 members since 2008. Our team delivers the prepared meals to clients on one of the routes each Friday. Each person on our team is only needed to deliver about one Friday per month. Please consider joining our team as we serve the elderly of our community.  You will make a difference in their lives, and you will also receive a blessing! Women’s Retreat Invitation
 – March 1-3, 2019
Cokes Chapel women are invited to join Harmony Grove UMC Women’s Retreat, at Methodist retreat center Lake Junaluska, North Carolina

Theme: Peace~~ Locating God in our Daily Lives
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. John 14: 27

Jesus promises to give us peace. We also know that at times it is difficult to find peace or maintain it. The news of the day unsettles us, the call from the doctor alarms us, the day to day challenges of navigating life can make us feel frayed and at odds with this promise.  Pastor Lisa will lead this retreat in which we will explore what Jesus intends for us through His promise of peace; talk about some of the barriers we encounter in maintaining peace; and finally, practice ways to increase our peace on a daily basis.

I look forward to our discoveries in God’s Word and the fellowship that will renew us for a stronger daily walk in Christ that draws us closer to Him and to one another. God has good in store for us!

To assure your place, make your reservations now by filling out the registration form by going to harmonygroveumc.com and click on Ladies Retreat.  To view accommodations, click on the Lambuth Inn.  Reservation forms will be available at the church.
Reservations are limited, so make yours now.  Questions?  Call Lisa Dempsey (770) 598-5066 or retreat coordinator Kathy Davis at kandjdavis325@gmail.com.  Deadline is January 27.

I hope you will join me!
Pastor Lisa

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?  Our new crèche is placed & lit on the front lawn of the Sanctuary.  We are starting a tradition of gathering to sing, pray and offer the love of Christ to all who drive past Cokes. This year-long project was a combined effort of some of our church members and our Boy Scouts!

 A GIFT FOR JESUS
We enjoy giving to those we love at Christmas!  Have you ever thought about what you might give to Jesus in honor of His birth? Of all the gifts we shop for, this can be one of our most joyful actions – giving to Christ.

In keeping with this thought, we are offering “Gold Boxes” for you to pick up and pray about. Your giving to Christ’s church will help us end our year strong.  You are invited to return your “Gold Box” during the hymn following the Advent reading. If you have a small child or grandchild, please allow them to take part in this sweet remembrance.

Your church thanks each of you for your generous giving all year round.  A Gold Box gift is a way for all of us to say thank you to God, a way of acknowledging God’s gift of Jesus Christ for us.

Pick up your Gold box and return it with your gift inside during Christmas season.

CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE  Thank you for your support of the Angel Trees.  The gifts are due by Dec. 9th.  The families that will receive your generous gifts will know of God’s love through you.

ANGEL TREE PARTY To complete the circle, Cokes is hosting a Christmas Party for the Angel tree families on Saturday, Dec. 15th at 2:00pm.  The children will be entertained in the Worship Center and parents will drive around and pick up gifts while the children play.

Would you like to help with sugar cookies to decorate? With other refreshment or with serving? Contact Jackie Simpson at (770) 856-6092 or Betsy Bagley ebbagley@gmail.com.

FINAL RECOLLECTION UPDATE
Sunday, Nov. 14 was our final study and visioning.  It was an important day to bring all our work and community together to focus was on “What Must We Do?”

Our goal as a whole group was to discern two Action Steps into which God is calling us.  After hearing each class’ suggestions, commonalities were identified.  Out of those commonalities, two final action steps were agreed upon and adopted.

The Outcome of our Study are these two action steps:

1) Develop and implement a plan for intentional outreach to the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center, to include building on existing actions/activities through:
·         Inviting adults to existing youth programs in place with Childcare children;
·         Encourage wider participation in Prayer Team, as they continue monthly prayers for individual classes / families / teachers;
·         Develop intentional adult volunteer presence in the Childcare Center during the week to assist as needed; and

2) Develop and implement a plan for combining our Worship Services, to include additional offerings for Bible Study and Prayer on Sunday mornings and other times.

Several people volunteered to serve on teams develop and implement these action steps. All are welcome to join in!  Please contact Pastor Lisa or Kim if you are interested. Look for upcoming meetings to begin following the Christmas season.

Thank you all for the participation and prayer that has led us this far!  Many have not been able to go all sessions, but there were 50 in attendance at this final session. As we work together to live into these actions, we trust God to guide us in the days ahead.  We are truly grateful to God and to one another for this experience that we have shared!
