BUILDING USE AND ENTRY
Cokes Chapel Childcare is now using the Worship Center for rooms to accommodate our social distance requirements.
Due to our Child Safety Policy, until further notice, Monday-Friday, no entry allowed through the worship center doors between 6:00am and 6:30pm.  No exceptions.
Should you need to access to Worship Center, please check in through the CCCC office to gain entry.

We continue to abide by the guidelines we were given from our Bishop on returning to worship on June 28.  On return, we will follow the CDC and health professionals instructions for safe distancing, wearing masks and other actions that will provide the best environment for us to gather.  Look for more information to follow on this and other developments as we explore the potential for Drive-in Worship.

Please continue to pray and care for one another, our neighbors and community as you so often do.  If I can be of support, please let me know by email ldempsey@cokeschapel.org or phone 770-598-5066.

Love and peace,
Pastor Lisa

WORSHIP INFORMATION

Continue to join us each week on Cokes Chapel Facebook for Sunday morning worship!  You will receive an invitation by email with a link to connect!

“Psalms   A Place to Find Our Voice”
A Four Week Series begins this Sunday

Psalms is my go-to book of the Bible.  Within the poetry and worship the words help us express how we are feeling.  God desires for us to know ourselves so we can know God. Naming our feelings before God can be our best opportunity for righting our spirits and healing for our souls.

Isn’t God good?  Join us in discovering God with us in all times!  Series will run on Sundays, May 17, 24, June 7 & 14.

This Sunday, May 17 kicks off the series
Scripture  Psalm 13 “Speaking Our Pain”

OUTREACH

Allie and David Houle are our missionaries serving in Thailand.  In addition to their responsibilities with Blessing House, they have also been teaching English, making it possible to obtain work visas instead of the education visas.  However, the language school is closing, and their work visas with not be renewed.

Here is a an excerpt from their recent blog:

We are asking you to pray for us as we are exploring our options and applying for visas. Much of Thailand is still closed because of coronavirus, so going through this process right now will be challenging. We are thankful for all of your support, and because of your support, we have been able to help and feed the families of the children sponsored here as they struggle through unemployment. Please keep us in your prayers, and we will make sure to keep you up to date. Thank you.

A link to donate can be found at davidandallieinthailand.blogspot.com  Be sure to designate The Houles on the dropdown under Designated Giving.

NURTURE

This past week, our team of callers. started reaching out to our community.

Our goal Is to keep in touch! We pray that you will find this contact meaningful.  As we contact you, we will also take a minute to update any contact information for our records.  As calls are completed, we will begin to ask you for a photo, as we prepare for printing an updated directory.  Questions? contact Kelly at (678) 378-0538 or erbom@netzero.net.

 INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Sunday School Class will continue “at home” learning this week by exploring the story in Acts 3 of Peter and John as they continue to extend the invitation for others to join this radical new community. (Acts 3:1–4:22). The lesson focuses on how the Holy Spirit empowers us to have confidence to proclaim and live out our faith.

If you would like to be included in the email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

In Youth Ministry, we will hold another Zoom Youth Group meeting on Sunday, May 17th.  As has become our “new normal,” this will be a time of games, sharing, prayer, and learning.  We will continue an exploration of God’s greatest commandment (Mark 12:28-30).  This week we will focus on what it may mean to love God with our hearts (i.e., emotions).

Finally, as the school year is drawing to a close, we are planning ways to recognize and celebrate our seniors.  We are encouraging YOU, the Cokes Chapel family, to reach out to our graduates through a congratulatory note or card.  Please see additional information, including names and addresses of our graduates, in this issue of the G-Chat.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!
With love,
Kim

Graduate Recognition Cards/Notes:

During this time of social distancing, it’s not difficult to imagine how anticlimactic and disappointing this graduation season must be for many of our Graduating Seniors.  The anticipated rites of passage, such as senior class gatherings with peers, celebrations with family and friends, and even “walking” to receive that hard earned diploma at a graduation ceremony, are not possible this year.

Our Graduating Seniors need our love and support at this important time in their lives.  Our young people need to know that they are surrounded by a faith family that is here to lift them up, even when circumstances are difficult and unexpected.

YOU, the Cokes Chapel family, are being invited to share a simple note or card of love and encouragement with our Graduating Seniors as an expression to them of what it means to be held by a faith community.  It does not matter whether or not you know these young people personally.  What matters is that they feel God’s love for them through this simple but meaningful gesture of love and kindness.

If you would like to send a card or note to our Graduates, their names and addresses are included below.

Thank you, faith family, for wrapping words of love and encouragement around these young people as they venture forth into a new stage of life!—Kim Reindl (kim.reindl@gmail.com)

The CCC re-opened to children last week on 5/4/2020, but we have never really been closed! Staff had been working on professional improvement and keeping the CCC clean and ready to go. Week 2 has 50 children attending the CCC and some news to share!

The State of Georgia has given us a grant in the amount of $30,106. This amount was based on our enrollment prior to shutdown. The state has placed restrictions on how the money can be spent, but the CCC can easily accommodate those restrictions. Also, the Payroll Protection Grant, that the CCC received last month, is currently being used to cover payroll.

We are following state guidelines for group assembly with only 10 persons in a classroom, so every square inch of the CCC is being used to maximize enrollment capacity! We have a class in the lunch room, and we are seeking approval from the state to use the Worship Center for an additional classroom. We expect to get this approved shortly and for the new classroom to begin next week. Appropriate signage will be posted to restrict entrance into the Worship Center.

Starting June 1, with easing of state mandates, the CCC will be able to accommodate 20 people to a room. This will increase potential enrollment to 180. We expect that parents will start to return their children to the day care as jobs return and work shifts from home based back to office. Also, we expect new clients as one local daycare has shut its doors permanently.

The CCC appreciates the continued support of the Cokes Chapel congregation! We are thankful for the return of our children and look forward to more each week!

Please pray for our bookkeeper, Marcia and her husband, Stan. Stan is in chemotherapy.

Yours in service,
Arianna

G Chat May 6, 2020

The North Georgia Conference has said that we may consider offering Drive-In Worship.  We are now making plans to give this a try!  In order to do so safely, we must follow the guidelines below:

  • Coordinate with your local law enforcement or emergency management agency.
  • Utilize volunteers or signage to direct parking.
  • Everyone, including volunteers, staff, and clergy, must follow social distancing guidelines at all times.
  • No one should leave vehicles for any reason.
  • No bathroom facilities.
  • No playground.
  • Park every other spot
  • No one exchanges anything.

Finally, weather could cause a change in plans for outdoor worship. We will also continue to offer on-line worship each week.  More on a date for this to come!

ALSO We are also forming a Health and Wellness team that will work together to create a safe environment, that includes signage, decisions about cleaning/sanitizing stations, and assist in the return to worship that includes safe practices for everyone.

Are you interested in taking part in this team?  I would deeply appreciate it, if you have an interest in helping prepare for our return to worship, contact me at ldempsey@cokeschapel.org or cell 770-598-5066.

We continue to abide by the guidelines we were given from our Bishop on returning to worship on June 28.  On return, we will follow the CDC and health professionals instructions for safe distancing, wearing masks and other actions to provide us with the best environment for gathering.

Please continue to pray and care for one another, our neighbors and community as you so often do.  If I can be of support, please let me know.  Long distance hugs and prayers for your safety and health.

SENIOR RECOGNITION for our High School and College Graduates!
Sunday, May 24th we will recognize our graduates.  If you or your family has a graduate, please email Kim Reindl at kreindl@cokeschapel.org or kim.reindl@gmail.com to find out what information is needed. Families: the DEADLINE for turning in this information is May 10th!

As we start May and face at least another month of time without actively participating in our Outreach activities, we look for ways to be helpful.  Of course reaching out to others with calls, cards, and prayers are important.  However, some Cokes Chapel folks are wanting to give financially since they can’t get out and actually go help. Two of the local Outreach ministries that we work with, Backpack Buddies and Meals on Wheels of Coweta are facing financial challenges now as they serve our community. They would appreciate any help we can give.
If you would like to donate to either of these and need the address, please contact Betsy Bagley.
Let’s continue to pray for all our Outreach ministries and our missionaries, the Houles, the Hadden’s, and Caleb Earle.

All donations are used to buy food for hungry children in our county.  Any amount of food or monetary donation is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in for partnering with us!
Current list of food needs:

  • Ramen Noodles
  • Canned Soup
  • Ravioli (both pop-top and cans; may be any pasta meal in a can)
  • Grits or Oatmeal Packets
  • Small Boxes of Cereal (individual servings)
  • Individual Cracker Packages (peanut butter, cheese, etc.)
  • Small plastic jars of Peanut Butter (16 oz)

On Sunday, May 14, 2020 is designated Wesley Woods Sunday throughout the North Georgia Conference.  Your giving will support the work of Wesley Woods and the older adults as we care for this older adult community throughout the year with this Mother’s Day special offering. Please note on your giving envelope or online the portion that you are giving to this worthwhile ministry to the aging.

The Committee on Finance did not meet in April and will not meet in May unless the need arises.  As of today we are able to keep the lights on, pay other outstanding expenses and salaries. We have been blessed surely by a generous, loving and merciful God.  He hears our prayers and knows our needs even before we ask.
THANK YOU GOD!  Amen

 INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Sunday School Class will continue “at home” learning this week by exploring the story of the new community in the book of Acts (Acts 2:42-47; 6:1-7). The lesson focuses on the understanding that following in the way of Christ is about right relationship with God and one another (Luke 16:19-31).  In Acts, Luke shows us that shared life within community is not without conflict.  Emphasizing that conflict in itself is not a sign of trouble; it is a community’s response to conflict that reveals its spiritual health.

If you would like to be included in the email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

In Youth Ministry, our youth held a Zoom Youth Group meeting on Sunday, May 3rd.  Along with games and a time of sharing and prayer, we also began an exploration of God’s greatest commandment (Mark 12:28-30).  We focused on what it may mean to love God with our minds or thoughts.  Finally, as the school year is drawing to a close, we are exploring ways to recognize and celebrate our seniors.  Look for information, starting next week, on how you can reach out to our graduates through a congratulatory note or card.  Thing are very different for this year’s senior class and we want to make sure that the Cokes Chapel family encourages them with our love.  (If you have a graduating High School or College Senior that has been connected to the Cokes Chapel family, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com).

The Childcare Center opened on Monday, May 4, with limited numbers of children so that we will be able to maintain best practices issued from the State Health Department.  Parents are beginning to return to work and depend on us.  We appreciate your prayers for our staff, children, and families.

The Childcare Board reports that they had a great start, with 30 children.  We are thankful for our dedicated Director, Kristin McCoy and Assistant Director, Amber Moore, as well as our teachers.  Continue to pray for the ministry of Cokes Chapel Childcare Center.

 INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Sunday School Class will continue with “at home” learning through Bible lessons re-written to be used by individuals and families at home.  As part of our focus on “Jesus Prepares the Community,” this week we will be exploring the story of Pentecost in the book of Acts (Acts 2:1-41).  This is the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which Luke considers to be a driving force of the disciples’ post-Easter mission.  If you would like to be included in this email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.
In Youth Ministry, our youth held a Zoom Youth Group Game Night on Sunday, April 26th.  We gathered online for a time of friendly competition!  The youth played a “Zoom In” game where they were challenged to identify pictures of objects at a very close distance, a game of “Truth or Lie” where each youth engaged in modified show and tell with a weird or unusual object from their home, and finally a game of “Guess Who?” where we each tried to match a little known fact with each of our participants.  It was great just to gather and have fun together!  Finally, our youth have started sending cards to members in our congregation and community who are on our hearts an in our prayers.  (If you or someone you know are in need of a little extra encouragement at this time and would appreciate a card from one of our youth, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com).
God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!     With love,  Kim

The Childcare Center is beginning to open as of May 4, with limited numbers of children so that we will be able to maintain best practices issued from the State Health Department.  We have parents that must return to work and families that depend on us.  We appreciate your prayers for our staff, children and families.

G-Chat April 23, 2020

Notes from our North Georgia Conference:

The 2020 North Georgia Annual Conference Session has been rescheduled in an effort to protect the health safety of all who attend. New dates have been set for August 28-30—a Friday through Sunday.

Bishop Sue and the Conference Cabinet reminded us as we wait out this time of sheltering-in: “to do no harm … and continue to urge churches not to gather through May 13, 2020.”

On Monday, April 27, the bishop and cabinet will offer more guidelines on how to evaluate and plan for re-opening our church facilities when the time comes that we can safely do so.

Daily devotionals continue. If you are not receiving one, notify Velda at veldagraydon@me.com to have your name added.

TRUSTEES AND FINANCE announced this week that Cokes Chapel UMC has received the loan/grant for funding of the Cokes Chapel Childcare for 8 weeks of payroll and selected other expenses.  We are thankful and delighted to have this stimulus fund to maintain the employees and staff that make our Child Care the Best Ever!
Giving praise and a prayer of thanksgiving for this momentous event in the history of Cokes Chapel.

WORSHIP INFORMATION

Continue to join us each week on Cokes Chapel Facebook for Sunday morning worship!  You will receive an invitation and link to connect!
Coming this Sunday:  “Let’s Take a Walk!”  Luke 24: 13-35. Reflections on the road to Emmaus and our journey with Jesus.

A note from your Pastor on Video recording for Worship:
Thank you folks for bearing with an unschooled pastor who can’t quite figure out where to look or where the camera lens is, or how to relate to you when all I see is a picture of me talking while I preach.  God bless you for your patience and God help all us preachers as we turn it all over to the Holy Spirit and pray you find God in the midst of our learning curves.  You are missed and loved – how dear your faces are to me in my memory!  Pastor Lisa

OUTREACH UPDATE

Cokes Chapel folks love their Outreach missions, so it is hard when we are not able to get together.  We miss singing at Newnan Nursing and Rehab, delivering Meals on Wheels, visiting and serving Luthersville Seniors, packing bags for Backpack Buddies, and others. Until we are together again, what we can do is pray every day for these groups and for our missionaries, the Houles, the Haddens, and Caleb – for them to stay safe and healthy!

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE REPORT

As we told you last week, we have been awaiting word on the Protection Payroll Program Loan/Grant.  This past Saturday we were notified that we will be awarded the funds and they are presently in the Childcare Banking Account.  Praise God!  The Church and Childcare leadership will begin to learn as much as they possibly can regarding how these can be used to satisfy the forgiveness of the loan.  Garnett Reynolds from Truist Bank (BB&T + Sun Trust) has been extremely helpful through this process with his guidance and encouragement.  We needed his help several times for guidance and he was quick to assist us.

This past week we worked to revise the April, May and June budget and consider cash flow.  It was recommended that we take the first three months of the year and average both income and expenses.  Marcia Smith, bookkeeper, sent us a combined operating statement for the church to analyze.  The findings are below:

INCOME – January – March

Total income $67,785.18  (monthly average of $22,595.06)

Revised Projected monthly average of $22,595.06 General Funds (These funds were collected at church during normal times)

Other Income $00.00 for April, May and June (Rental parsonage $1000; rental CCCC $8052; CCC Tithe varies depending on profits/averages $566.80)

Current total General Funds (budgeted) for April 1 – April 30, 2020 are $15,217.30

The Bank Account as of Tuesday at 5:11 PM = $94,402.42

EXPENSES – January – March

Total expenses $72,478.92 (monthly average of $24,159.67)

Minus Healthflex Insurance $1250 Conference Board of Pensions to cover church portion of Pastor’s Healthflex

Minus YH Loan deferment $898.12 BB&T deferment of Loan (principle and interest varies)

Minus CCC Loan interest $3440.41 Interest of CCC Loan (a Trustee budgeted expense)

Revised Projected Expenses $18,571.14

If you would like copies of the Operating Statement for Jan-March or have questions, please contact me at vcsnyder@bellsouth.net

The committee will make every effort to keep you informed regarding the financial status of the church during these unusual times.  Please don’t forget to give.  The staff is still at work and the lights are still on. Not only can you give on-line, you can drop your tithe off at the church office through the NEW slot in the office door or you can send it by U.S. Mail.  Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness to keep God’s house alive and well.

If you go forth in LOVE, you will find your PEACE.

INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Sunday School Class will continue with “at home” learning through Bible lessons re-written to be used by individuals and families at home.  This week we will be exploring Jesus’ final resurrection story in the gospel of Luke, where Jesus commissions the disciples and offers them God’s peace (Luke 24:36-53).  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.  If you would like to be included in this email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.

In Youth Ministry, our youth held another Zoom Youth Group meeting on Sunday, April 19th.  It was great to “see” everyone through the gift of technology.  We were able to check-in with one another, pray together, have a “Bible Trivia” competition, study the Scripture and discuss the passage in small groups, and commit to a Card Ministry as a way to serve others in our congregation and beyond.   (If you or someone you know are in need of a little extra encouragement at this time and would appreciate a card from one of our youth, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com).  This coming Sunday, April 26, the youth will have a Zoom Game Night where we will spend time playing games together online!  It should be an adventure!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!  With love, Kim

COKES CHAPEL CHILDCARE CENTER:

In keeping with Governor Kemp’s directive, the Childcare Center continues to remain closed at this time. Opening date will be determined by best practices from the Governor and other advice from the State Health Department.
