December 31, 2020 G Chat

As we look to finish this year, 2020 is almost behind us.  That is good news for us all!  However, the changing of the calendar is not going to change our circumstances, much as we would wish that!  We still have a way to go with overcoming this pandemic.  It has been a challenge that we have struggled with, prayed about, sought answers, and asked many more.

As people of faith, God gives us the hope we need for today and for tomorrow. The scripture above reminds us of God’s good plan, one that we do not have to create, but follow.  In our hopes, plans, and desires for 2021, I pray you will join me in seeking God’s will, trusting in God’s promise, and looking always to the good that will come with God’s will.

Happy New Year in the Lord – we can trust that 2021 will be a good one in the Lord!
Love and peace,   Pastor Lisa

We continue to support our three missionary families:   Allie and David Houle;  Amanda and Matt Hadden; and Caleb Earle.  We were not able to have our Dinner/Silent Auction in August because of covid limitations.

Please consider donating to our missionary fund to help meet our pledges to these three families until we are able to have some fundraisers.  A one-time donation or once-a-month gift would be appreciated.  Designate donation for “Missionaries” when you give.

Have a wonderful 2021 and help our missionaries as they serve!

Again, thank you for supporting the 20 gifts for children and additional gifts for eleven children in our community.  Thank you to everyone who has helped make Christmas even more special for these children.

Cokes Chapel members and the Cokes Chapel Child Care Center combined efforts to provide gifts through our Angel tree program.  Together we helped 28 families and 66 children thru Christmas in Coweta (Bridging the Gap). The CCC donated gift cards totaling $1250.

It just won’t be Christmas without YOU!! See Part 1 and Part 2
Big plans are in the works for Christmas Eve VIrtual Worship, with Christmas hymns accompanied by a visual “walk through” the decorated sanctuary.  Lay Leader, Larry Carter will warm our spirits towards this sacred time with prayer.  Melissa and Cadence Tyner will do our Advent reading. We know little Cadence’s smile will warm our hearts! A special music selection leads into a reflection from of scripture from Pastor Lisa.
Now here is the good part:
As the Praise Band brings Silent Night, traditionally we sing and light candles together.
Where YOU come in (Part 1)
TASK: Take a “Selfie” photo of you and anyone else you wish, holding a candle.
       Send to: Veldagraydon@me.com
Velda will create a slide show of your photos to watch during Silent Night. We will get to see each other!!
Then, following the Benediction we have another chance to bring your wishes to one another:
YOUR PART! (Part 2) send a short video of greetings!  While together for your “Selfie”,
TASK:  RECORD a One Sentence Greeting to your Cokes family.  Please keep this brief – a “Merry Christmas!”  Or “we love you!”.
        Upload your video here:  https://www.cokeschapel.org/christmas-eve-videos/
Velda will piece video’s together so we can enjoy one another!

Please note: deadline for all photos/videos is Saturday, December 19

Christmas will still be Christmas, for Jesus Christ will come!  Christmas Eve will surely be brighter if everyone will send their photos/recording.  We miss one another!  If you don’t have the capability to take a photo or video, check with family.  May this Christmas Eve remain in our hearts and in our memory as one we spent together in spite of restrictions, in the love and strength of God who loves us!
Pastor Lisa

P.S. Sending your photo and video sooner than Saturday, December 19 will be a great help.  You might even find a gold star in your crown!

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, December 16, 2020:

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Inter-generational Sunday School class will be wrapping up our four-week Advent study.  We gathered via Zoom last Sunday, as we will again this Sunday. Our final week will focus on the word “promise,” anticipating the promise of the Christ Child once again this Christmas.  We will also have the opportunity to reflect upon Scripture text from 2 Samuel 7 and God’s never-ending, unconditional grace.  If you are interested in participating in this Zoom Sunday School gathering on December 20th from 9:00-10:00 am, please contact Kim at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  No prior participation, nor preparation, is required.

Also in Inter-generational Ministry, our Prayer Partners gathered for a final time as a group on Sunday, December 13th via Zoom.  Participants learned about how acts of service and creative expression can be a form of prayer.  As participants complete their partnerships, they are being asked to practice “action prayer” by doing something special for their prayer partner this month.

In Youth Ministry, our annual Youth Christmas Party will take place outdoors at the Youth House (rain plan under the pavilion) on Sunday, December 20th from 4:00-6:30 pm.  This will be a time for our youth to celebrate with one another through fellowship, food, and fun and games.  We are excited to be together while practicing safe and responsible protocol, as we experience the joy of the season!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, and apart!

Happy Advent!
With love,
Kim
(Kim Reindl, Director of Inter-generational, Youth & Children’s Discipleship; kim.reindl@gmail.com)

Return to On-Line Worship

This Sunday, December 13th

Church Council met  Wednesday night, December 9th.  After reviewing current Covid risks, we determined in-person worship will be Paused until Coweta returns to Yellow Risk level.

A Note from Pastor Lisa:
This is a difficult decision.  Not one of us would choose to stop in-person worship. This is our high holy season. Christ came to bring us salvation, teaching us how to live a life that reflects God in us.

For now, showing love is about caring for one another.  We can do this best by not contributing to the spread of Covid.   If we all do our part by eliminating risky gatherings, wearing masks, sanitizing, washing hands and a vaccine does it’s part, we will see this horrible time recede in impact on every aspect of life.

Visit globalepidemics.org and Coweta County Health department, countyindicatororeport.s3.amazonaws.com provides the details of the current risks. Please use the above links to get more information.

Thanksgiving Gifts
Thanks to the loving, caring spirit of Cokes Chapel, we provided very generous Kroger gift cards to ten families in our community.  These gifts helped our friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!

Angel Tree
Our congregation provided 20 gifts for children whose names were given to us by the ChildCare Center staff. We are now in the process of collecting gifts for eleven children in our community.  These gifts will be delivered the week before Christmas.  Thank you to everyone who has helped make Christmas even more special for these children.
Kristin invites church members to drop in and pray over the Christmas gifts that both the Church and Child Care Center have collected for families in need in our community on Thursday, December 10, from 10 to 4 in the Worship Center

Cokes Chapel members and the Cokes Chapel Child Care Center combined efforts to provide gifts through our Angel tree program.  Together we helped 28 families and 66 children thru Christmas in Coweta (Bridging the Gap). The CCC donated gift cards totaling $1250.

Also, we are pleased to announce that we have received a $55,500 grant from the State to be spent between now and June for Childcare needs.
Growing Our Faith…
Monthly projected operating funds needed: $20,400
Actual operating funds collected as of December 9th: $9,762.29

Current giving statements and a letter will be sent out in the next week. If you do not get your information by email, we will mail membership their information.  If you are aware of someone who does not get email, please let Brenda Minter at the office know so we can keep information flowing.

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, December 2 and 9, 2020:

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Inter-generational Sunday School class has begun a four week study for the Advent season.  Each week the study, Behold: Cultivating Attentiveness in the Season of Advent, encourages participants to pay close attention to the meaning of the season by focusing on a single word, reflecting on Scripture texts, and trying various forms of prayer such as praying with images, silent prayer, prayer beads, and compline (night prayer).

Also in Inter-generational Ministry, Prayer Partners will gather for our final time as a group on Sunday, December 13th via Zoom.  In this gathering, participants will learn more about how acts of service and creative expression can be a form of prayer.  During the meeting, each person will be given the opportunity to share time with their partner in a “breakout room.”

In Youth Ministry, our annual Youth Christmas Party will take place on Sunday, December 20th from 5:00-7:30 pm.  This will be a time for our youth to celebrate with one another the joy of the Christmas season through fellowship and fun and games, while responsibly attending to safety protocols for such gatherings.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, and apart!

Happy Advent!
With love,
Kim

Continue to pray for one another and for our country for comfort, peace, freedom from anxiety, depression and fear. May God surround, protect and bring us assurance of God’s almighty hand with us during this difficult time.

We extend our prayers to Cheryl Reed (daughter) and family on the passing of Claudette Schunk on Monday, December 7.  Cheryl reported that Claudette passed peacefully.  Claudette will be cremated and will be interred with her husband, Lee, at the Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, CA at a later date.  There will be no funeral service at this time.  To remember Claudette, you might sing or listen to her two favorite songs; “Rock of Ages” and How Great Thou Art”.

If you wish to send Cheryl a card, her address is: 357 Jim Starr Road,  Newnan, GA. 30263

Please remember Ron and Deborah Wilder in the recent passing of his sister, Linda Rigdon, recently of Roberta, GA.  She had suffered with a long illness.  While her death was not unexpected, the family is holding a place of grief in her absence.  The family will gather in Roberta on Thursday for visitation and Friday for a funeral.  Please remember this family during this season of grief.

If you wish to send Ron and Deborah a card, their address is: 34 Scenic Hills Drive,  Newnan, GA 30265

In this time of Advent, we pause to pray for those who have recently lost loved ones.  We pray that God’s holy mercy will shine on each mourner, bringing warmth and peace.  May Linda and Claudette Rest In Peace, and Rise in Glory.

Show our Shut-ins some Love!  A note from you would brighten their day and make a difference.  You don’t even have to “know” them, just sign the card, “your Coke’s Chapel Family”.

Consider sending one card each week to rotate through the list, and let the Cokes Chapel love shine out!
