Please join us in this time of CELEBRATION.  It will be a time of joy and a time of sad farewells.  It will be an opportunity for everyone to speak personally to Pastor Lisa, as we know so many wish to do.

Love and Blessings to all!

Summer Volunteer Opportunities!!

This summer Backpack Buddies will work  alongside the school system again to pass out weekend bags while they offer free lunch to students in Coweta County.  They will be delivering / distributing weekend bags to 18 locations this summer and need volunteers who are willing to deliver and distribute bags on Thursdays during the month of June and July.  This volunteer opportunity is only for high school students and older that can drive their own vehicle.
In addition, they will also need a crew of volunteers to help  pack the weekend bags every Wednesday in June and July.  They will be packing about 1,400 bags each week from 9:00am-11:00am at the office at 96 Werz Industrial Blvd.  This opportunity is for ALL AGES.

Growing Our Faith…

Financial Snapshot for May, 2021
Monthly projected operating funds needed: $21,783

Actual operating funds collected as of May 31: $20,327.30

Thank you for your ongoing support of the ministries of Cokes Chapel!  We are honored you would bless the Lord’s work with your generosity!

Nancy Vermilyea, Finance Chair

In Other Conference News…. Financial support for Cokes Chapel UMC provided!
Beginning June 1, 2021, for a period of three months (June, July, and August), the North Georgia Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits will fund the church portion of HealthFlex health insurance premiums from the CBOPHB “Current Benefits Reserve” fund.

“We recognize that many of our churches are continuing to adapt to new patterns of giving,” said Charles Darden, chair of the Conference Board of Pension. “The Board of Pension is blessed to have adequate reserves that we can use to cover the health insurance premiums that would otherwise be paid by the churches for a period of three months, beginning June 1”
This action was approved by the Conference Board of Pension on Wednesday, March 17.
June billing from the Conference Benefits Office will reflect this decision. Churches will still be billed for pension and the participants’ portion of the health insurance.
This marks the second time that the CBOPHB has offered this holiday. They used reserves to cover the church portion of HealthFlex premiums for three months of 2020.

Visit our website: cokeschapel.org to give regularly or make a one time gift.

The Prayer Team has returned to in-person gatherings.  We meet at 5:00 pm on Wednesday nights in the Fellowship Hall.  If the Fellowship Hall is in use we will meet in the Eubanks Classroom.  Please join us!  Questions?  Contact Debbie Carter at debbiecarter30263@charter.net

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, June 2, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, everyone is welcome as the Inter-generational Sunday School Class gathers in-person before worship each week in the Worship Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  In this month’s unit we are exploring the ways that God revealed God’s self as evidenced in the Bible:  through self-declaration, quietness, visions, love, and most importantly, Jesus.  This coming Sunday, June 6th, we will study Kings 19:8-14 and discuss how God’s presence is experienced in the stillness.

In Youth Ministry, as we enter the month of June, we are planning for a day trip and a kick off to summer party!  More information to come!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

Last Call for Chef Boyardee!!

We just need about ten more cases to meet our goal for Backpack Buddies!  Bring a case to church Sunday – or donate $10, and we will shop for you.  Thanks for helping feed the children in our community!

A Most Important Reminder –
Mark the date on your calendar:  Saturday, August 14, 6 pm in the Worship Center as we are plan and pray for our Southern Picnic/Silent Auction!!  All proceeds will benefit our three missionary families – the Earles in Italy, the Hadden’s in South Dakota, and the Houles in Thailand.

How Can You Help? If you have items – a “like-new” item, a service (baking, etc.) or places: a second home at the beach, mountains or lake that you could open for a long weekend or week, your participation is how Cokes has been able to support our missionaries throughout the year.  Each year, God has mightily used your creative and generous ways to fund missions literally around the world!

If you think you have something that would be a good addition to our auction, please contact Betsy Bagley or another Outreach Team member.  ebbagley@gmail.com

United Methodist Women (UMW):

  • Voted to assist SPR with Pastor Lisa’s Retirement Reception on Sunday, June 6th.  Margie Jones met with members on May 20th to discuss preliminary planning.
  • Began their study of James Moore’s book Attitude is Your Plaint Brush, It Colors Every Situation.  We made a goal to finish it by the end of the year.
  • Completed weekly “laundry detail” for Cokes Childcare while the laundry room was renovated.  Thank you to all who agreed to be the “hands and feet of God”.
  • Next meeting will be on June 17th at 10 AM in Fellowship Hall.  We will meet for lunch following the meeting at place to be determined.

Reminder –
We are planning and praying for our Southern Picnic/Silent Auction in August!!  All proceeds will benefit our three missionary families – the Earles in Italy, the Haddens in South Dakota, and the Houles in Thailand.

If you think you have something that would be a good addition to our auction, please contact Betsy Bagley or other Outreach Team member.  ebbagley@gmail.com

UMW will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, May 20 at 10 AM.  All ladies are welcome to attend.  Please join us for lunch at Chili’s in PTC after the meeting for some food, fun and fellowship. We always have a great time.

Our Childcare Center can always use a helping hand. Remember you must clear security before you can have access to the children.  We can always pray and thank God for the leadership, staff and, most importantly, the children.  “They are precious in His sight”.

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, May 19, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, everyone is welcome as the Inter-generational Sunday School Class gathers in-person before worship each week in the Worship Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  (The church’s COVID guidelines for in-person gatherings will be followed.  Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing.)  This month we are exploring God’s invitation to be a new creation in Christ.  This coming Sunday, May 23rd, we will study 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 and discuss how Christ provides a way for us to experience being a new creation.

In Youth Ministry, we will be gathering for Youth Group this coming Sunday from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Youth House.  This will be a time for us to be together for fun and reflection as we draw to the end of another school year.

Finally, on this Sunday, May 23rd, we will be recognizing our High School and College graduates.  We hope to see everyone in worship this Sunday as we honor our graduates by recognizing this important milestone!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

God we come to give you our thanks and praise.  At the beginning of each day may we turn to You for wisdom, strength and hope.  Then as we go about our day we pray that you guide us in each of our decisions, empower us to see the needs of others, and teach us to serve and give as You did for us.
Lord we pray for ourselves, for our church, community and world.  We face so many difficulties, whether in our personal life or in being aware of the sorrows and challenges of the world community.  You are our only hope, our stay in times of trouble, the light that surrounds us with love that changes all circumstances.
Form us with your love, teach us to mindfully embrace opportunities to bring light and Your message of hope.  We love you Lord! Amen.

                                    10:00 a.m. Worship

                        Luke 24:44-53      “Parting Words”

Some of the most important words are spoken as we leave – whether on a trip, going to work, or facing death.  Words that can haunt or guide us.  Jesus was always mindful of his impending leave-taking and of speaking about it.  How do we hear his last words spoken to the disciples today?

Tithes and Offerings Note: in continuing our COVID guidelines a table is provided for tithes and offerings as you enter the Sanctuary.  There are two offering plates; one for communion offering and another for your offerings.

As of 5/5/21: Coweta County has returned to Yellow risk level.  Thank you for being part of the solution! We will keep covid guidelines including sanitizing stations, no handouts, congregational singing, limit inside time, and open doors for ventilation, weather permitting.

Worship Update: Church Council voted to resume solos.  We look forward to welcoming live music in worship!

A Note to the Prayer Team and Cokes Chapel Family
It is with heartfelt thanks to all of you at Cokes Chapel who kept my sister and her family in your prayers on the loss of Heather, her daughter and my niece.   The love and friendship that radiates from your hearts is an amazing blessing to me and our family.
From our hearts… thank you.  Diane Johnson and family.
