Will You Pray with Me?

I am sure you have been asked that question many times. I have learned that when prayer is asked for, or when I offer to pray for someone, the BEST thing I can do is stop and pray right then. No matter whether I am in the grocery store, in the middle of the mall, driving (I don’t close my eyes!). You get the picture. Prayer can happen any where, any time.

I know from experience that my day is better when I don’t let anything interrupt my prayer and meditation time each morning. My heart is prepared through reading God’s Word. My spirit is encouraged as I lay the day before the Lord and am reminded that He will be directing my path and is Master over all that I do. I invite you to a 6 week Summer Experiment. We have a wonderful tool at our fingertips for prayer, published by the UM Publishing House, The Upper Room. It is available in print and online for free*. Imagine: what kind of mighty work God can do through us if all of us as a faith community were to commit to reading and praying each day the SAME meditations and scriptures!

One heart, one mind, one purpose being shaped together each day for the next 6 weeks. I believe in the power of prayer and the unity of prayers of the people. Will you pray with me?

If you will, please let me know by sending me an email or signing up on the Summer Prayer Experiment sheet posted in the worship areas.

YOUTH NEWS

Dear Cokes Chapel Family,

A lot of changes have been occurring at Cokes Chapel over the last few weeks and months. We said good-bye to Pastor Mark and we have now officially welcomed Pastor Lisa and her family. Now is the time to begin FOCUSing on ministry again. With that being said, (or written in this case), we will be embarking on a connectional ministry with Cornerstone UMC. What does that mean for FOCUS Youth? This is an opportunity to expand our potential, expanding our reach and building on what is already being done.

Specifically, we will be able to connect for our youth retreats and events, connecting for worship while maintaining small groups to allow us to dive deeper into our relationship with God. The exact plan is still being discerned and revealed but as we move forward through the summer, we hope to have the weekly plan ready for the fall.

For now, FOCUS Youth will continue to meet on Sunday’s through July 17 when we return from River Of Life. FOCUS students are invited to go to the Eastgate neighborhood on Wednesdays through July. Stay tuned for more fun activities through August and back to school. We will keep you informed as we develop this new ministry.

Please be in prayer for our connectional ministry opportunity and for our River Of Life mission team.

Yours In Christ,

Bobby Totten
FOCUS Youth Director

Announcements June 9

THANK YOU FROM THE JORDAN FAMILY

Dear Cokes Chapel Family,

We all want to thank you for a truly blessed time in ministry together these past several years. The celebration we enjoyed this past Sunday left us truly overwhelmed. From the love and energy in the worship space, to the spiritual synergy during Mia’s baptism, to the gifts of love and appreciation, to the mind-blowing luncheon, it was a day we will never forget! “Thank you” seems so inadequate during a time of reflection and celebration such as this, but it is about all we can muster as we say, “God be with you.” Please be in prayer for our family while we gear up for ministry at The United Methodist Church At The Well in Cartersville, and know that we are in prayer for Cokes Chapel, and especially Pastor Lisa and Jack Dempsey.

God be with You,

Mark, Tiffany, and Ethan Jordan

HAVE LUNCH WITH OUR NEW PASTOR NEXT WEEK!
Pastor Lisa will be in the office next Wednesday, 6/15 and would like to invite anyone who may be interested and available to pack a brown paper bag lunch and stop by to meet both her and her husband, Jack in the Fellowship Hall between the hours of 11-1PM.  Drinks will be provided!

NEED VOLUNTEERS THIS SUMMER
Are you able to help clean our sanctuary once or twice this summer?  The kids from the school who normally clean for us, are on summer vacation.  We are asking for volunteers to sign up to vacuum, dust and pick up the sanctuary.  With a team of two or three, it really does not take much time at all!  Sign up sheets are available with the open schedule.  Thanks in advance for your help!

ICECREAM SOCIAL/MEET & GREET
You’re invited to an Open House at Fellowship Hall to meet and greet Pastor Lisa & Jack Dempsey on Sunday, June 26th from 2 to 4pm.  Sign up sheets will be out on Sunday. Please let us know if you’re planning on dropping in!
