To: Pastor Lisa & Cokes Congregation,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kindness and love poured out for me and my family with the passing of my mom.

I wish I had words to express how much I appreciate the prayers, cards, food, hugs, texts and emails from Coke’s friends, old and new!  I am not sure who did all the food for the lunch before the funeral, but it was yummy and help out my huge family!  I feel so blessed to be part of the Cokes Chapel family.

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!  You each are very special to me and I look forward to knowing you even better.

Love, Ed, Kelly, Brittany, and James Bomba; William Odom, and Kim Stephens

United Methodist Churches around North Georgia are taking up an offering in the next few weeks for Wesley Woods.  A letter from Wesley Woods reads “Your partnership is vitally important to create a world where seniors can age with grace, dignity and purpose.  We are grateful to you!”

The Mother’s Day Offering provides critical funding for financial assistance, balance & fitness classes and on-site nurses to assist with medical-related issues and a chaplain who provides spiritual counsel for residents, including grief support & hospital visits to adults living in a Wesley Woods community.

Your commitment to meeting the needs of North Georgia’s older adults makes a difference.  To give, please make your checks to Cokes Chapel UMC; on the memo line add Wesley Woods, Mother’s Day offering.  You also can give online at mothersdaygift.org, or text “MOTHER” to 243725.

Eagle Scout Reminds Us of a Deep-Rooted History

Slave Monolith Dedication
Sunday May 5th, 3:30pm – 4:15pm Cormac McCarthy, Eagle Scout, Venturing Summit, Ranger Award Recipient, and VFW Scout of the Year, along with his Scouts BSA Troop 2193, Venturing Crew 2193, and members of Cokes Chapel UMC, will be conducting a dedication ceremony.

McCarthy chose to recognize history while working on his Venturing Summit project, by designing & commissioning, a granite monolith engraved with previously unacknowledged names of some of the slaves believed to have been buried, in the unmarked graveyard, behind the Cokes Chapel Sanctuary. Many of the names were found through probate court records, dated before President Abraham Lincoln declared an executive order freeing all slaves, in the Emancipation Proclamation, on January 1st of 1863.

McCarthy then reached out to Michael and Karen Lassetter from Coweta Monument Company, to create the Monolith. “In a time when so many are tearing down monuments, and statues, Cormac McCarthy found a way to put a monument up.” (the Lasseter’s, Coweta Monument) To find out more about this project and our Scouts, we hope you will come to the dedication ceremony.
