Week 5: I Freely and Heartily Yield All Things

https://vimeo.com/507074163

This week Bishop Sue is joined by Rev. Scott Parrish to discuss one of the most challenging lines in the prayer, “I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.”

Focus Lines of the Prayer
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things
to thy pleasure and disposal.

So Be It: Our Call to Action
Let go of the grandiose and deal with the small, simple things in front of us that we can do with great love.

“Forgiveness: A Lenten Study”

This is a church-wide study! EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Sunday Mornings

9:30-10:30 AM

via ZOOM

Begins Feb. 21st-March 28th

Forgiving others and humbly asking for forgiveness are central disciplines for all Christian believers. Lent, a time to reflect on our Christian journey, is an appropriate time to deepen our understanding and practice of forgiveness. In six brief chapters, we will address such questions as the following:

  • Is forgiveness a Christian duty under all circumstances? Or are there situations when Christians do not need to forgive?
  • Is forgiveness a matter between individuals, or is it meaningful only in the context of communities?
  • Is forgiving the best route to healing for the injured?
  • How do we get past emotional barriers to real forgiveness?

With clarity, insight, and sensitivity, this book is the perfect resource for examining both our ability to forgive and our own need for forgiveness.

We have great plans to pick back up with the summer camp, jails, meals, children’s discipleship and vocational ministries, and whatever else He allows us to open back up.”

Let us join in prayer together:  Lord, we continue to pray for one another and for our country.  We lift up the leaders of our nation to God, asking for divine guidance, wisdom and a deep desire for peace. Be with the people of this nation who are looking to our leaders to provide for needs, and may they be met with compassion and generosity.
May our change in leadership look to You for guidance and wisdom, listening and acting as You would have us to do.
Lord, while there are leaders and decision makers of our nation we look to, may we always look to You as our ultimate one that we depend on and take our lead from.  Help us to seat our faith, hope and trust in You.  All else is but a passing moment, like chaff that is cleared from the grain, so that You will be known. Only You are have the power through willing hearts to bring hope and peace.  May God surround, protect and reveal Your healing presence to us, our leadership and nation.  Amen

Prayers needed for our Missionaries, the Houles in Thailand
Here is an update from Allie and David about their quest to adopt a child.

We have met with our local orphanage about adopting a very special girl who has special needs (slow development and possibly deaf). Because our area is in lockdown, due to Covid, no one is allowed to visit the orphanage so we have not met her yet. Despite only talking to her social worker and seeing 1 picture of her from when she was 6 months old, we have taken ourselves off the waiting list and started the paperwork for adopting her.  We are praying that the lockdown will be over soon. Once lockdown is over we can visit and see her. The orphanage is only 10 minutes away from our house and we are so eager to meet her.

We have a very long and complicated process of adoption paperwork to do. We need lots of prayers that this process can move quickly and easily so that we can bring her home!
Being foreigners who are doing a local adoption is extremely rare. Because our case is different from most, it can make things difficult and confusing.

We need lots of prayers because there is nothing we can do to help move the process along, we have to wait. We started the process of adoption 2 years ago so we have been waiting for a long time.

Thank you for your prayers that things can move forward quickly and easily!

SYMPATHY
Paul Snyder’s nephew, Gregory Alan Snyder, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 22nd.  Please keep the Snyder family in your prayers.

Our deepest sympathy to Hugh & Jeanine Giles and their family on the loss of their son, Ryan Giles, in a car accident last week.  Please remember the family in your prayers.

Let us join in prayer together:  Lord, we continue to pray for one another and for our country.  We lift up the leaders of our nation to God, asking for divine guidance, wisdom, and a deep desire for peace. Be with the people of this nation who are looking to our leaders to provide for their needs, and may they be met with compassion and generosity.
May our change in leadership look to You for guidance and wisdom, listening and acting as You would have us to do.
Lord, while there are leaders and decision-makers of our nation we look to, may we always look to You as the ultimate one that we depend on and take our lead from.  Help us to seat our faith, hope, and trust in You.  All else is but a passing moment, like chaff that is cleared from the grain, so that You will be known. Only You have the power through willing hearts to bring hope and peace.  May God surround, protect and reveal Your healing presence to us, our leadership, and our nation.  Amen

Show our Shut-ins some Love!  A note from you would brighten their day and make a difference.  You don’t even have to “know” them, just sign the card, “your Coke’s Chapel Family”.

Consider sending one card each week to rotate through the list, and let the Cokes Chapel love shine out!

We are praying that lockdown will be over soon. Once lockdown is over we can visit and see her. The orphanage is only 10 minutes away from our house and we are so eager to meet her.

We have a very long and complicated process of adoption paperwork to do. We need lots of prayer that this process can move quickly and easily so that we can bring her home!
Being foreigners who are doing a local adoption is extremely rare. Because our case is different from most, it can make things difficult and confusing.

We need lots of prayer because there is nothing we can do to help move the process along, we have to wait. We started the process of adoption 2 years ago so we have been waiting for a long time.

Thank you for prayers that things can move forward quickly and easily!
Allie and David

As you can see from the 2020 year end summary, the people of the little white church on the hill have been faithful givers.  In a year that has been difficult for all of us, your generosity and kindness has helped us pay our bills; support our three missionaries; support Luthersville, One-Roof and the Needy Family Fund; provide Thanksgiving baskets to 10 families; and support special offerings for the Homeless, Childrens Home and UMCOR.  THANK YOU!!

Happy New Year!!

2020 was quite the year and I’m sure we are all hoping that this new year does truly bring a new beginning. For us, we are definitely moving forward into a new beginning. Last week, on January 3rd, Eva and I got married in Georgetown, Tennessee! We had a wonderful and restful honeymoon in Asheville, North Carolina, and are now living in Ooltewah, Tennessee, until we are able to get back to Italy. Now that Eva has finished college and the wedding is finished, we can finally pick things back up with the visa process, which we are hoping to have completed by April. With the craziness of the last 4 months, I haven’t sent out an update in a while. So here are a few things that have happened:

OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2020

At the beginning of October, I left for Forest City, North Carolina, to lead a month and a half long training time with a group of students who would spend the next 8 months in Guatemala. This was very exciting for our Global Year Team, not only because it is the first group we have sent there, but also because we were able to send students abroad despite the travel restrictions stunting global missions around the world. This time with the students was truly so impactful for them. We really feel like they were better prepared spiritually for their time overseas. Please be in prayer with us as they continue to serve in Guatemala.

DECEMBER 2020

During December, Eva was finishing up her undergraduate education at Dalton State College. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in English and a 4.0! It was so fun to celebrate her hard work even through a virtual ceremony at home. We spent the rest of the month preparing for the wedding and enjoying the holidays with our family.

JANUARY 2021

Our wedding was such an incredible day and we were so pleased with how it all turned out. We had so much help throughout the weekend and were really able to enjoy the day without any worries.

Now, that we are married, we feel like we can finally begin moving forward with the visa process again. We are working on gathering several documents which we will need in order to apply for the visa in Miami. Please be in prayer with us as we work on this in the next few months. We will also be trying to gather the last bit of our monthly support.

Thank you so much for your continued support through prayer and finances. We are so thankful for each of you and wish you all a happy fresh start to this new year!

If you feel led to give a one-time donation or join our monthly support team, you can do so by clicking here.

We often hear the words “Hindsight is 20/20,” but I want to share these words with you today; “2020 is Hindsight”. The year 2020 held challenges we have never seen before. Individuals, families, churches, businesses, and governments worldwide have been impacted due to the Global Pandemic.

As you can see from the 2020 annual recap, we have been blessed with faithful givers.  We have continued to support our three missionaires, Luthersville, One Roof, The Needy Family fund and have paid our bills. You have made a big difference in the work our church is doing.

Thank you for supporting Cokes Chapel!  We are honored you would bless us with your generosity!

Be with the people of this nation who are looking to our leaders to provide for needs, and may they be met with compassion and generosity.  In this season of transition for out country, may we be the guide and example of a country that honors democracy and strives for peace.
Lord, while there are leaders and decision makers of our nation, help us to seat our faith, hope and trust in You.  All else is but a passing moment, like chaff that is cleared from the grain, so that You will be known. Only You are have the power through willing hearts to bring hope and peace.  May God surround, protect and reveal Your healing presence in these times.  Amen

Dear Cokes Chapel UMC,
Thank you so much for supporting us and the Blessing Centers of Thailand Now,  Your donations support at-risk children in Thailand by helping us to keep them safe, in school, and out of the sex and drug trade in Pattaya, Thailand.  We are so thankful for your prayers and support.  The work we do here would not be possible without your generosity.  Your kindness has made a difference in our lives and the lives of the children we serve.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Allie and Davie Houle

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone on the Prayer Team for their months of cards to my mother, Claudette.  The church was always very important to mom along with the many friends she made there.
Thank you again for the cards and prayers.  Her struggles are over and she is at rest.
