                         Peace with Justice Sunday

                                10:00 a.m. Worship

Isaiah 6:1-8      “Can You Hear Me Now?”

A calling for Isaiah that burns even today.  Can we hear the voice that calls us?  What is our answer?  How do we each respond?

Tithes and Offerings Note: in continuing our COVID guidelines a table is provided for tithes and offerings as you enter the Sanctuary.  There are two offering plates; one for communion offering and another for your offerings.

As of 5/26/21: Coweta County has returned to Yellow risk level.  Thank you for being part of the solution!

NEW Worship Update: Church Council voted on 5/26 to begin planning for resumption of the choir, congregational singing, and others we have missed in worship.  We will experience a gradual return of these signs of health with hopes to see all things in place by mid-July.
We continue to adhere to CDC guidelines for no mask or social distancing for those who have had their vaccinations, respecting that some may still need to take care and remain masked.

A NOTE FROM SPR . . . .

Staff Parish Relations and The United Methodist Women cordially invite you to share in a RETIREMENT CELEBRATION BRUNCH for Pastor Lisa Dempsey on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in the Fellowship Hall immediately following Worship.

After 23 years in Ministry, Pastor Lisa is finally retiring.  This will allow her to have a much-needed time of rest and time with family.  We will miss her beautiful spirit, her smile, her in-depth Bible Studies, and her great sermons.  We will miss her very presence!  And we will all miss that awesome Pastoral Spouse Jack Dempsey.

Please join us in this time of CELEBRATION.  It will be a time of joy and a time of sad farewells.  It will be an opportunity for everyone to speak personally to Pastor Lisa, as we know so many wish to do.

Love and Blessings to all!
Margie Jones, SPR
Sherba Peek, UMW

P.S.
If you care to contribute a brunch dish it will be so much appreciated.  If you care to contribute to a Gift for Pastor Lisa that will be so much appreciated also.  You may contact Margie Jones at 770-253-9392 or Sherba Peek at 770-253-2679  to contribute either or both.

Last Call for Chef Boyardee!!

We just need about ten more cases to meet our goal for Backpack Buddies!  Bring a case to church Sunday – or donate $10, and we will shop for you.  Thanks for helping feed the children in our community!

A Most Important Reminder –
Mark the date on your calendar:  Saturday, August 14, 6 pm in the Worship Center as we are plan and pray for our Southern Picnic/Silent Auction!!  All proceeds will benefit our three missionary families – the Earles in Italy, the Hadden’s in South Dakota, and the Houles in Thailand.

How Can You Help? If you have items – a “like-new” item, a service (baking, etc.) or places: a second home at the beach, mountains or lake that you could open for a long weekend or week, your participation is how Cokes has been able to support our missionaries throughout the year.  Each year, God has mightily used your creative and generous ways to fund missions literally around the world!

If you think you have something that would be a good addition to our auction, please contact Betsy Bagley or another Outreach Team member.  ebbagley@gmail.com

United Methodist Women (UMW):

  • Voted to assist SPR with Pastor Lisa’s Retirement Reception on Sunday, June 6th.  Margie Jones met with members on May 20th to discuss preliminary planning.
  • Began their study of James Moore’s book Attitude is Your Plaint Brush, It Colors Every Situation.  We made a goal to finish it by the end of the year.
  • Completed weekly “laundry detail” for Cokes Childcare while the laundry room was renovated.  Thank you to all who agreed to be the “hands and feet of God”.
  • Next meeting will be on June 17th at 10 AM in Fellowship Hall.  We will meet for lunch following the meeting at place to be determined.

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, May 26, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, everyone is welcome as the Inter-generational Sunday School Class gathers in-person before worship each week in the Worship Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  We are starting a new unit that will explore the ways that God revealed God’s self as evidenced in the Bible:  through self-declaration, quietness, visions, love, and most importantly, Jesus.  This coming Sunday, May 30th, we will study Exodus 33:12-23 and discuss the special ways that God is revealed to Moses.

In Youth Ministry, we gathered at the Youth House this past Sunday for a time of creativity and fellowship.  As we enter the month of June, we will have more opportunities for fun together.  We are planning for a day trip and a kick off to summer party!  More information to come!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

A NOTE OF THANKS
I want to express my appreciation for the prayers for my sister Jane over the last months. She is much better and can be taken off our prayer list. Our family and Jane appreciate your many prayers. God has worked in amazing ways!
Thank you for your love and support, Tica Spake

Let us join in prayer together:
God we come to give you our thanks and praise.  At the beginning of each day may we turn to You for wisdom, strength and hope.  As we go about our day we pray for Your guidance in our decisions, help us to see with Your compassion and wisdom.  In each action, may we grow in service, giving with faith in God’s power to complete all things for God’s glory.
Lord we pray for ourselves, for our church, community and world.  We face difficulties, whether in our personal life or in being aware of the sorrows and challenges of the world community.  You are our only hope, our stay in times of trouble, the light that surrounds us with love that changes all circumstances.
Form us with your love, teach us to mindfully embrace opportunities to bring light and Your message of hope.  We love you Lord! Amen.

Show our Shut-ins some Love!  A note from you would brighten their day and make a difference.  You don’t even have to “know” them, just sign the card, “your Coke’s Chapel Family”.

Consider sending one card each week to rotate through the list, and let the Cokes Chapel love shine out!

A Note to the Prayer Team and Cokes Chapel Family
It is with heartfelt thanks to all of you at Cokes Chapel who kept my sister and her family in your prayers on the loss of Heather, her daughter and my niece.   The love and friendship that radiates from your hearts is an amazing blessing to me and our family.
From our hearts… thank you.  Diane Johnson and family.

Let us join in prayer together:
God we come to give you our thanks and praise.  At the beginning of each day may we turn to You for wisdom, strength and hope.  Then as we go about our day we pray that you guide us in each of our decisions, empower us to see the needs of others, and teach us to serve and give as You did for us.
Lord we pray for ourselves, for our church, community and world.  We face so many difficulties, whether in our personal life or in being aware of the sorrows and challenges of the world community.  You are our only hope, our stay in times of trouble, the light that surrounds us with love that changes all circumstances.
Form us with your love, teach us to mindfully embrace opportunities to bring light and Your message of hope.  We love you Lord! Amen.

Craig and Cindy Cox would like to invite all of you to help them celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, May 22, 2021.  Drop-in will be from 11 am to 4 pm at the Cokes Chapel UMC Fellowship Hall.  See invite . . .

Show our Shut-ins some Love!  A note from you would brighten their day and make a difference.  You don’t even have to “know” them, just sign the card, “your Coke’s Chapel Family”.

Consider sending one card each week to rotate through the list, and let the Cokes Chapel love shine out!

Backpack Buddies
We are collecting Chef Boyardee Variety Packs for Backpack Buddies through the end of the month. You can purchase a 12-pack at Sam’s or BJ’s for about $10.  Please bring them to church and place in narthex.  If you would rather donate money to purchase the packs, please write a check to Cokes Chapel and designate for Backpack Buddies — or give check/cash to Betsy Bagley.

We are busy about making a difference for our community!
We continue to wash the many loads of laundry from the Childcare Center while the kitchen and the laundry rooms are being renovated.  This will be a mighty blessing for the staff and children.
We will meet again on May 20th at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall.  We will be planning the first 2021 Wednesday Evening Supper…a picnic table with all the fixings!!!!  Come join the fun, food and most of all the fellowship.

Please come and join us as we find joy and life in being the hands and feet of Christ together.  Questions?  Contact Sherba Peek by text at (770) 253-2679.

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, May 5, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Inter-generational Sunday School Class is gathering in-person before worship in the Worship Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  Everyone is welcome! (The church’s COVID guidelines for in-person gatherings will be followed.  Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing.)  This month we are exploring God’s invitation to be a new creation in Christ.  This coming Sunday, May 9th, we will study 2 Corinthians and discuss how we are reconciled with God through Christ.

In Youth Ministry, we have been working hard to create the Memorial Butterfly Garden for Mia Jordan, which is located next to the Cokes Chapel Labyrinth.  The foundation has been constructed and the flowers have been planted.  Finishing touches are soon to be added. Please look for more information on the dedication of the garden in the coming weeks.

Finally, on Sunday, May 23rd, we will be recognizing our High School and College graduates.  Please contact Kim at kreindl@cokeschapel.org if your family is celebrating a graduate.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

Sympathy to Sandra Oliver on the death of her brother, Lamar Wilborn on Wednesday, April 28 in Panama City, Florida.

Let us join in prayer together:
God we come to give you our thanks and praise.  Each day is a gift, each moment is a treasure to be experienced.  We pray that we would come to know you in ways that give us understanding of how to love, how to give love and how to love ourselves.  May we embrace the mercy and grace that you show to us, such that we are drawn to live out that same mercy and grace with others.
We ask you to comfort those who are struggling, who are ill, who are separated from You and feel lost.  Give us the gift of seeing the broken, and of offering ourselves in Your name for the healing of others. Allow us to humbly take on Your mantle of love.  Help us to love, serve and bring light to the world in Your name, through Your power for your glory.  We love you Lord! Amen.
