G Chat June 4, 2020

Recently our District Superintendent, Susan Landry, offered an opportunity for those interested to meet by Zoom to discuss the issue of racial division.  The purpose is to begin with work on ourselves, on our relationships with one another and then we might determine next steps together.
It was timely, and significantly, Susan offered this before the recent death of George Floyd and further unrest.  I believe in the providence of God, and believe we all have a Christian responsibility to grow in our relationships and love.
Pray with me and for our group as we seek better methods and ways of being examples that light the way for peace.  Thank you to Margie Jones, who is joining us after I told her what I was involved in.  We are truly a church that loves well!  Love, Pastor Lisa

WORSHIP INFORMATION

Continue to join us each week on Cokes Chapel Facebook for Sunday morning worship!  You will receive an invitation by email with a link to connect!

This Sunday, June 7th

“Our Shepherd”

Scripture  Psalm 16

NEW SERMON SERIES STARTS JUNE 28TH – HOT TIME IN THE SUMMERTIME!
Some of the most intriguing stories in the Bible have to do with heat.  Fire and the presence of God make for lasting impressions in both the Old and New Testament.  Plan now to be with us for exploring how God gets our attention.  Escape the heat of summer, come into the cool for worship and experience the fire that comes from being in God’s presence!  Sundays, June 28th through July 9th

Our Food Pantry is at work in our community.  We have had several families contact us during the past few weeks to ask for help with food.  We met with them and were able to provide food for these families and their young children.  We are planning to make the pantry more available in the future.  We will need donations of food and will let you know next week where and when to drop them off. Most needed items are:

spaghetti and spaghetti sauce

peanut butter and jelly

canned meats

baked beans

egg noodles

macaroni and cheese

dry beans

rice

crackers

cereal

canned vegetables (other than green beans and corn)

Once again, the lights are on, staff has been paid, and bills have been paid so far.  As long as program chairs keep spending to essentials ONLY, we should be able to keep the lights on.  Thank you for your faithfulness and generosity.  We are truly EASTER people with hope and joy!

The Sanctuary was found unlocked again.  Please remember to re-lock all doors that you unlock.  This is God’s home, please treat it as your own.

Cokes Chapel Childcare is now using the Worship Center for rooms to accommodate our social distance requirements.
Due to our Child Safety Policy, until further notice, Monday-Friday, no entry allowed through the worship center doors between 6:00 am and 6:30 pm.  No exceptions.  Should you need to access the Worship Center, please check in through the CCCC office to gain entry.

INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

This week’s Inter-generational Sunday School lesson focuses on Isaiah 58:1-14.  In this Sunday’s Scripture passage, the Israelites are struggling to connect with God and build a just society. The lesson will explore issues of justice and righteousness and how the faith community is to support right relationship with God and neighbor.

If you would like to be included in the email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

In Youth Ministry, we are in the process of developing a summer plan for our “new normal.”  Our guiding Scripture is Psalm 105:3—”Let the hearts rejoice of all those seeking the Lord!”
Our goal is to continue to create grace filled environments where young people are actively SEEKing to walk in the way of Christ for the sake of the world. (Service, Exploration, Engagement, Kinship)

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!
With love,
Kim

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE REPORT

The Committee on Finance once again thanks our congregation for their generosity and faithfulness.  As some would say, the actual church building is not important to worship God…it is people that make the church.  I agree, and we miss those who we see and greet on Sunday mornings.  However, take just a minute to imagine worship without our beautiful old comfortable sanctuary and, comparatively, our new spacious worship center at the Childcare Center.  Hard to do, right?  We are all liked minded.  We love hearing and reading the Apostle’s Creed together, participating in communion around the alter together, singing and being sung to together, reading and hearing God’s word together, learning about God’s word and how the LOVE of God can change your life together and last, but certainly not least, giving back to His church to keep the lights on, to pay the salaries, to pay the bills and most importantly to spread His word together.  These are all individual actions we do to formally WORSHIP in COMMUNITY with God.     We have been blessed. Amen

Financial Total for the month of May:

Revised monthly budget for April, May and June:  $18,571.14

Total May General Funds:  $20,672.30

Total Other Contributions:  $715.00

We came up a little short in the May operating statement because of some quarterly and annual bills (insurance, pest control and termite control)  that had to be paid over and above the revised budget.  However, God is in control and He has never left us.  We are okay!

If you go forth in LOVE, you will find your PEACE.

INTERGENERATIONAL, YOUTH, & CHILDREN’S DISCIPLESHIP

This week’s Inter-generational Sunday School Class will continue “at home” lessons in the book of Acts.  In this Sunday’s Bible story, Philip’s evangelistic travels signal that God’s salvation has arrived for the outcasts of Israel (Acts 8:26-40). The lesson focuses on how Philip’s reaching out to the Samaritans and the Ethiopian eunuch are an indication of God’s inclusive love.

If you would like to be included in the email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

In Youth Ministry, we will hold a Zoom Youth Group meeting on Sunday, May 30th.  On this Pentecost Sunday, we will continue a focus of God’s greatest commandment (Mark 12:28-30).  We will explore the question of what means to love God with our strength (i.e., bodies).

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!
With love,
Kim

Week 3 is in the books! There were 65 children attending daycare at the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center this week. We expect that number to increase, especially with “Summer Camp” beginning June 1.

The state approved our use of the Worship Center for a new classroom (2 teachers, 18 children). We will be starting that classroom on May 26 or June 1.

The CCC received a grant of $2000 from Communities 4 Children, a non profit. Thank you for your support and ongoing prayers!
