Our Luthersville Visit on June 23rd
Luthersville Senior Center is one of the charitable organizations that Cokes Chapel sponsors on a regular basis. Although the name might be familiar as you have heard it said many times that part of our communion offering goes to Luthersville, you may not know exactly what our role is or what the Center is all about
Years ago, some of our members would go to Luthersville Food Pantry regularly carrying food and other needed items. Then the routine changed so a Cokes member would go to the grocery store with a Luthersville volunteer to actually buy the food. Now the way it’s done is we provide money to the center to be used to purchase food for meals, and this money comes from our communion offering!
The Senior Center, housed in an old school, now provides lunch for seniors three days a week — Tues., Wed., and Thurs. The seniors are also involved in different activities on those days from about 9 to 2. They have a devotional time with singing and sharing. Some of them make up a quilting group. Many of their quilts are sold to help support the group. Mainly they come to the Center for companionship and support.
Since 2017 Cokes Chapel and our Outreach Committee have been actually going to the center and providing lunch and a program one day each quarter.
Our next visit is Thursday, June 23rd. We will meet at the church at 9:30 and go in cars to the center. A group of children from the Childcare Center will go with us. If you would like to go, we would love to have you. If you would like to help with the lunch, please use the signup sheet in the narthex to let us know what you will provide.
Mission Dinner/Silent Auction Coming Soon!
Our Outreach Committee is working on plans for our Mission Dinner/Silent Auction coming up in August. All proceeds from the event will benefit our three missionary families, the Earles in Italy, the Haddens in South Dakota, and the Houles in Thailand.
More details and plans will follow in the near future.
If anyone has an item, a service, or experience you would like to donate for the auction, please contact Betsy Bagley.
