Sunday, June 13th in the Sanctuary

                                10:00 a.m. Worship

Scripture: Matthew 13:13-17   Sermon: “How’s Your Vision”

Scripture:  Matthew 13:13-17 (CEB; Common English Bible translation)

·Matthew 13:13-17

13 This is why I speak to the crowds in parables: although they see, they don’t really see; and although they hear, they don’t really hear or understand. 14 What Isaiah prophesied has become completely true for them:
You will hear, to be sure, but never understand;
and you will certainly see but never recognize what you are seeing.
15     For this people’s senses have become calloused,
and they’ve become hard of hearing,
        and they’ve shut their eyes
so that they won’t see with their eyes
            or hear with their ears
            or understand with their minds,
and change their hearts and lives that I may heal them.
16 “Happy are your eyes because they see. Happy are your ears because they hear. 17 I assure you that many prophets and righteous people wanted to see what you see and hear what you hear, but they didn’t.

Tithes and Offerings Note: in continuing our COVID guidelines a table is provided for tithes and offerings as you enter the Sanctuary.  There are two offering plates; one for communion offering and another for your giving.

As of 5/26/21: Coweta County has returned to Yellow risk level.  Thank you for being part of the solution!

NEW Worship Update: Church Council voted on 5/26 to begin planning for resumption of choir, congregational singing and other we have missed in worship.  We will experience a gradual return of these signs of health with hopes to see all things in place by mid-July.
We continue to adhere to CDC guidelines for no mask or social distancing needed for those vaccinated, respecting that some may still need to take care and remain masked.

Trustees will not have a meeting on 6/20 due to Father’s Day.
Instead we will meet alongside the Childcare board on 6/16, 6:30pm Wednesday at the Worship Center.

The Childcare has several requests to take care of to get ready for the addition of the 2nd Prek
1. moving the After school room to the Worship Center permanently
2. storage and organization request in the WC
The goal is to make sure the WC space is still usable for larger church events as needed.  How can the Trustees help to coordinate?

The Childcare also has a request for larger storage in the playground. Jimmy contacted each trustee, we have no objections as long as the storage unit is anchored and has a solid or concrete floor.

Jimmy would also like to discuss grounds trash cleanup around the childcare building and cutting or removing the tall plantings on the outside of the retention pond so the security cameras have a better line of sight. (This will be an add on cost from whoever we use, Abby, or Beam.)   Do we need signs to post that it is under surveillance?

Parsonage septic main line clog removed and pumped – possible plumbing issue in the future. waiting for invoice.

Parsonage HVAC old unit maintenanced needs to be replaced, it fails often. Service call and freon cost paid by donation.

Lara McCarthy, Trustee

Thank you to everyone who provided the Chef Boyardee variety packs for Backpack Buddies.  We delivered 32 cases this week (which is 384 meals). Program Coordinator Lori Burnette said she is looking  forward to our group helping with the night time packing this fall..

United Methodist Women (UMW):

UMW will meet on June 17th in the Fellowship Hall.  Plans will focus on upcoming events where we can help:
– JoAnn Browns Memorial Service on June 19th
– Ice Cream Reception for Kim Reindl on June 27th
– Welcome Celebration for Pastor Carson on July 11th
We will meet for lunch, following the June 17th meeting, at Cracker Barrel in Newnan for food and fellowship.

Thank you to all who contributed to Pastor Lisa’s farewell reception.  It was a true celebration for Pastor Lisa and Jack.

Growing Our Faith…

Financial Snapshot for June, 2021
Monthly projected operating funds needed: $21,783

Actual operating funds collected as of June 9: $7,387.29

Thank you for your ongoing support of the ministries of Cokes Chapel!  We are honored you would bless the Lord’s work with your generosity!

Nancy Vermilyea, Finance Chair

 “Who Needs Catsup?”

Why we all do!  It’s the added extra, the dressing on hot fries, the glorious red spot on the front of your shirt that says “I ate with Catsup today and I am proud of it!”

Turning the spelling around a bit, we can hear the same word but find a different meaning.  Catch Up.  Yes, catch up, like bring things up to snuff.  Get back up in the front of the race even when you are behind.  Cokes has an opportunity to bring the Catch Up action to our finances as we receive our new pastor.  One of the many concerning areas that pastors address is financial stability and well being of the church.  It is a reflection of spiritual discipline.  Due to many influences, our giving has dropped.  Perhaps if you haven’t attended, you don’t give.  Perhaps you have had personal circumstances that have affected you.  What ever your circumstance, please take the next weeks to pray, listen to what God is revealing, and consider bringing your “catch-up” offering to the altar on the first Sunday that Pastor Carson arrives.

Imagine how moving it will be for his new congregation to show their investment in Cokes and his new ministry by coming forward to lay your above and beyond giving or catch up offering at the end of service.  Praying over your gifts and for your new Pastor.

This sacrificial giving can be a tangible, physical and spiritual movement of the church, unified together as one to start your journey together.

Won’t you pray and then prepare to take part? And the answer to the question of who needs catsup?  Well – both kinds of Catsup and Catch up!  Of course!

In Other Conference News…. Financial support for Cokes Chapel UMC provided!

Beginning June 1, 2021, for a period of three months (June, July, and August), the North Georgia Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits will fund the church portion of HealthFlex health insurance premiums from the CBOPHB “Current Benefits Reserve” fund.

“We recognize that many of our churches are continuing to adapt to new patterns of giving,” said Charles Darden, chair of the Conference Board of Pension. “The Board of Pension is blessed to have adequate reserves that we can use to cover the health insurance premiums that would otherwise be paid by the churches for a period of three months, beginning June 1”
This action was approved by the Conference Board of Pension on Wednesday, March 17.
June billing from the Conference Benefits Office will reflect this decision. Churches will still be billed for pension and the participants’ portion of the health insurance.
This marks the second time that the CBOPHB has offered this holiday. They used reserves to cover the church portion of HealthFlex premiums for three months of 2020.

The Prayer Team has returned to in-person gatherings.  We meet at 5:00 pm on Wednesday nights in the Fellowship Hall.  If the Fellowship Hall is in use we will meet in the Eubanks Classroom.  Please join us!  Questions?  Contact Debbie Carter at debbiecarter30263@charter.net

Dear Cokes Chapel family,

I want to express how very touched and appreciative Jack and I are for your beautiful send off on Sunday.  From seeing our sanctuary almost full, to having Hugh and Jeanine Giles join, to Brian’s music and the surprise song Jenni chose – my favorite,  Be Thou My Vision, worship was inspiring.  Following worship, the great fun brunch and party was just perfect, and I know The Holy Spirit was present.

Your “more than a reception, it was a Celebration!” was over the top! The UMW and others who brought food, offered groaning tables full of goodies, with plates filled to overflowing, and hearts happy to be together.   It was a perfect day that we have longed for, to be together and have table fellowship. What a great way to say goodbye to the pandemic life, and a final fun time to recognize my retirement!

I bid you a most fond farewell, but not goodbye.  Jack and I remain in Newnan, but will of course be stepping back to make room for Pastor Carson and family.  I am so very delighted for the course that God has set for you with your new Pastor.  I am excited to see where you will be lead by God and Pastor Carson’s gifts and graces!

I have been privileged to serve you.  With a deeply grateful heart, I give thanks for your faith, love and your very generous gift and party Sunday.  We are using your gift on our trip, and will be so thankful for you each day.

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Lisa and Jack

SYMPATHY

We extend our deepest sympathy to Ann Navin and the Fulton family in the loss of Ann’s sister, Johnnie Fulton.  You remember that we have prayed for Johnnie in the past.  Six weeks ago she had surgery at Johns Hopkins for a benign growth on her pancreas and had lots of trouble recovering.  She saw her family doctor yesterday and died at home last night.  Ann is on her way to Greenville and Tryon, NC.  She asks that we cover the whole family in prayer.

Let us join in prayer together:
God we come to give you our thanks and praise.  At the beginning of each day may we turn to You for wisdom, strength and hope.  As we go about our day we pray for Your guidance in our decisions, help us to see with Your compassion and wisdom.  In each action, may we grow in service, giving with faith in God’s power to complete all things for God’s glory.
Lord we pray for ourselves, for our church, community and world.  We face difficulties, whether in our personal life or in being aware of the sorrows and challenges of the world community.  You are our only hope, our stay in times of trouble, the light that surrounds us with love that changes all circumstances.
Form us with your love, teach us to mindfully embrace opportunities to bring light and Your message of hope.  We love you Lord! Amen.
