April 30, 2020 G Chat

We continue to abide by the guidelines we were given from our Bishop on returning to worship on June 28.  It seems a long, far way off to us all.  On return, we will follow the CDC and health professionals instructions for safe distancing, wearing masks and other actions that will provide the best environment for us to gather.  Look for more information to follow on this and other developments as we explore the potential for Drive-in Worship.

Please continue to pray and care for one another, our neighbors and community as you so often do.  If I can be of support, please let me know by email ldempsey@cokeschapel.org or phone 770598-5066.

Love and peace,
Pastor Lisa

Help Us Recognize Our High School & College Graduates!
On Sunday, May 24th we will be recognizing our High School and College graduates.  If you or your family has a graduate, please email Kim Reindl at kreindl@cokeschapel.org or kim.reindl@gmail.com to find out what information is needed. Families: the DEADLINE for turning in this information is May 10th!

Continue to join us each week on Cokes Chapel Facebook for Sunday morning worship!  You will receive an invitation by email with a link to connect!

Coming this Sunday:  “Day by Day ”  Acts 2:42-47.

Cokes Chapel loves our Outreach and Missions activities and team work.  It is hard when we are not able to get together. Two of our local Outreach ministries that we work with, Backpack Buddies (see below for more information) and Meals on Wheels of Coweta are facing financial challenges now as they serve our community.
If you would like to donate to either of these and need the address, please contact Betsy Bagley.
Let’s continue to pray for all our Outreach ministries and our missionaries, the Houles, the Haddens, and Caleb Earle.

A note from Backpack Buddies:  All donations are used to buy food for hungry children in our county throughout the summer.  Any amount of food or monetary donation is greatly appreciated.  We say all the time, that whether it is one or ten or one hundred cans of ravioli, that is more than we had before.  Thank you in for partnering with us to help continue to feed hungry kids.
Following is the current list of food needs:

  • Ramen Noodles
  • Canned Soup
  • Ravioli (both pop-top and cans; may be any pasta meal in a can)
  • Grits or Oatmeal Packets
  • Small Boxes of Cereal (individual servings)
  • Individual Cracker Packages (peanut butter, cheese, etc.)
  • Small plastic jars of Peanut Butter (16 oz)
  • Mac-n-Cheese boxes
  • Water Bottles

We hope all is well with each one of you and your families.  With the Bishop’s latest news to “stay in place” until June 28, we continue to encourage you to send your re-occurring tithes: by U.S. Mail at 4096 Lower Fayetteville Rd, Sharpsburg, GA 30277; via on-line giving (Velda will enroll you on Realms if you need her assistance at veldagraydon@gmail.com); or you can drop your tithe in the slot on the office door.  We check periodically to gather anything dropped in the door slot.

Thank you so much for your generosity and your collective efforts to keep the lights on and pay the staff. God is still present and evident in our midst.

Sunday, May 14, 2020 is designated Wesley Woods Sunday throughout the North Georgia Conference.  Your giving will support the work of Wesley Woods and the older adults as we care for this older adult community throughout the year with this Mother’s Day special offering. Please note on your giving envelope or online the portion that you are giving to this worthwhile ministry to the aging.

Financial Snapshot for April:
Revised projected budgeted expenses for April, May and June – $18,571.14
Total April funds deposited for General Funds – $18,782.30
Total April funds deposited for Special Funds – $1345.00

Even though we are not in our buildings, our Trustees are working to keep the buildings intact and checking on the systems and functions in each building.  Walkthroughs and spot checks are done by various Trustees through the week.  They are in the midst of addressing a leak in the church sanctuary, and having it replaced or repaired. They also have removed a tree that fell on the roof of our storage house behind the Fellowship Hall.   Thank you to our dedicated Trustees!

Cokes Chapel works hard to maintain our facilities as well as provide for our spiritual care.  All to the glory of God!

Cokes Care Team Phone Team is in the process of re-booting our efforts.  We learned that with all good intentions, the start of the calling tree was difficult.  The pandemic has complicated all our lives!
Beginning the week of May 4, Kelly Bomba will be reaching out to our team of callers.  We will confirm assignments to call and begin again.  We could use one or two more callers.  If you are willing to be part of this nurturing team, please contact Kelly at (678) 378-0538 or erbom@netzero.net.

Our goal continues to be that we keep in touch, because we care about you! I pray that you will find this contact meaningful.  Help us keep your information updated and as that occurs, we will be able to print a current directory.  Thank you for being the loving heart of Christ!  Pastor Lisa

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Sunday School Class will continue with “at home” learning through Bible lessons re-written to be used by individuals and families at home.  As part of our focus on “Jesus Prepares the Community,” this week we will be exploring the story of Pentecost in the book of Acts (Acts 2:1-41).  This is the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which Luke considers to be a driving force of the disciples’ post-Easter mission.  If you would like to be included in this email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.
In Youth Ministry, our youth held a Zoom Youth Group Game Night on Sunday, April 26th.  We gathered online for a time of friendly competition!  The youth played a “Zoom In” game where they were challenged to identify pictures of objects at a very close distance, a game of “Truth or Lie” where each youth engaged in modified show and tell with a weird or unusual object from their home, and finally a game of “Guess Who?” where we each tried to match a little known fact with each of our participants.  It was great just to gather and have fun together!  Finally, our youth have started sending cards to members in our congregation and community who are on our hearts an in our prayers.  (If you or someone you know are in need of a little extra encouragement at this time and would appreciate a card from one of our youth, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com).
God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, yet apart!     With love,  Kim

The Childcare Center is beginning to open as of May 4, with limited numbers of children so that we will be able to maintain best practices issued from the State Health Department.  We have parents that must return to work and families that depend on us.  We appreciate your prayers for our staff, children and families.

Cokes Chapel Prayer Team is praying for all of you. Your requests, concerns, and praises are important to us. Please let us know if you need anything or have a special prayer request. I am available and happy to pray with you by telephone or just be a listening ear. Please join us in daily praying for God to heal our world. Claim it in the powerful name of Jesus Christ and give thanks to God for all things. Contact Debbie at DebbieCarter30263@charter.net or 678-233-4980.
