WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY
The United Methodist Church, World Communion Sunday (1st Sunday in October) Come to church this World Communion Sunday prepared to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion. As you receive the bread and cup, remember that you are part of the Church   Universal, united in Christ across time and space.

STEWARDSHIP
The Stewardship and Finance team are developing the 2019 budget.  This budget is a projected need for the coming year of ministry.  Right now, all the Committees are making plans for   ministry and evaluating the needs/costs.

Cokes Chapel maintains a tremendous local and world presence through your generosity.  Our prayerful hope is that you will be thinking of what God is calling Cokes to do and how you will     participate by your prayers, presence, giving and service in 2019.

Then, after you discern what God is calling you to do, we ask that you return the Service Opportunities 2019 sheet, and the confidential Giving Card *(envelope provided) to the church office or to the boxes in the narthex.  Help Finance by returning these commitment cards by Sunday, October 21st.

Your faithful commitments are doing Kingdom building for Christ!  Thank you for your generous and loving hearts.

In His Service,
Your Finance, Stewardship team, & Pastor Lisa

Weekly “Recollection” Update, Week 2—This week our classes focused on “Who Are We Historically?”  For homework, participants were asked to create both life and faith timelines.  Many emphasized how the exercise opened their eyes to how God has been present in their lives and has drawn them into Christian community in unexpected ways.  In class, participants reviewed the Cokes Chapel Historical Timeline.  There was much excitement about this with folks discovering interesting facts about our history that they were unaware of.  (Reviewing our history could be a class in itself!)  In small groups, participants created group timelines, naming dates and experiences that were important to them.  Everyone enjoyed hearing each other’s stories, especially stories of how people came to Cokes Chapel and stories of happy times together.  One group stated, we “gave thanks for the warmth, acceptance, love and welcoming spirit of Cokes Chapel.”

BACKPACK BUDDIES COLLECTION
Each week Backpack Buddies of Coweta distributes over 500 meal bags to Coweta County school children who need food for the weekends.  In these bags they pack over 500 Chef Boyardee meals and over 1,000 juice boxes.

During October, Cokes Chapel will be collecting Chef Boyardee Variety Packs of 12 microwaveable bowls  and/or cases of 36 juice boxes.  These can be purchased at BJ’s and Sam’s for about $10 each.
Please place your donations in the narthex or WC.  If you prefer to make a monetary donation for this project, please designate it for Backpack Buddies.

COKES CHAPEL CHILDCARE FUN RUN, FUND-RAISER
The childcare will be holding a fun run on Friday, November 9th as one of the few fundraisers they hold for the year.  There will be a short track set up in the parking lot and the field as part of the fun run. The kids will have fun while exercising and participating in “laps” along with other fun activities for the kids.

The parking lot will be blocked off from 9:30am until 12:00pm.  This event will benefit both Cokes Chapel Childcare as well as Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.  25% of the money raised will go to this foundation.  The students will work to collect pledges and donations.

If any church member, parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles would like to participate or volunteer, there is a sign-up sheet located on the resource table in the front lobby of the childcare.  The childcare is also looking for sponsorship to fund the creation of t-shirts for the event.  Your sponsorship will allow each child to receive a t-shirt for participating in the fun run.  Sponsorship is for $50 or greater.
