Weekly “Recollection” Update, Week 6 This week in our Recollection Study we focused on “Who Are We Called to Be?”  Throughout the week, participants were asked to think about their definition of the word “Christian.”  They were encouraged to not only define the term with words, but also through hymns, songs, stories, and art, that depict for them the meaning of the word “Christian.”  In class, small groups discussed what it means to be a Christian community (i.e., the Church).  We read Scripture passages and shared stories that exemplify Church.  Then together, each small group created their own definition for Christian community.

The responses created, continue to reveal to us the ways that God has been at work both in and through the people of Cokes Chapel.  We are being reminded and affirmed that we are an adaptable congregation that cares deeply for one another, as expressed through our generosity and faithfulness.

Weekly “Recollection” Update, Week 5—This week our classes focused on “Who Are We at Heart?”

At home, participants were led through a theological reflection process that allowed them to think about what God has been revealing to them throughout the study.

In class, folks were asked to reflect on what themes and words had emerged as they have thought about our congregation historically, relationally, and narratively.  After a time of reflection and discussion, small groups were given the opportunity to write a narrative response to the question, “If friends or strangers were to ask you to tell them about Cokes Chapel, what would you say?”

The responses created continue to reveal to us the ways that God has been at work both in and through the people of Cokes Chapel.  We are being reminded and affirmed that we are an adaptable congregation, that cares deeply for one another, as expressed through our generosity and faithfulness.
