Peace

Locating God in our Daily Lives

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. John 14: 27

Jesus promises to give us peace.  We also know that at times it is difficult to find peace or maintain it.  The news of the day unsettles us, the call from the doctor alarms us, the day to day challenges of navigating life can make us feel frayed and at odds with this promise.

During our retreat, we will: explore what Jesus intends for us through this promise; talk about some of the barriers we encounter in maintaining peace; and finally, practice ways to increase our peace on a daily basis.  There will be time for you to rest, visit local shops and embrace peace!

Harmony Grove UMC Women in Lilburn, GA invited Pastor Lisa to lead this retreat at Lake Junaluska. We will be in the newly renovated Lambuth Inn.  Lisa served as Associate Pastor at Harmony Grove for five years. The Harmony Grove women  extend the invitation to our Cokes Chapel women to join in this special time apart.

I know Cokes Chapel women will enjoy the beautiful mountain setting and the wonderful women of Harmony Grove.  I know they will delight in getting to know you also!

I look forward to discoveries in God’s Word, good fellowship  and renewal in our walk in Christ.   God has good in store for us!

Peace,

Lisa

To assure your place, make reservations now. Deadline is January 27.  Reservation forms available at the church office and in the narthex/information table.

WHAT IS EPIPHANY?
Epiphany, the end of the Christmas season is 12 days after Christmas. It comes from a Greek word meaning show or reveal.  Epiphany, which can be celebrated with festivities and gift exchanges, is often called Twelfth Night. Gift giving in some cultures extends throughout the 12 days of Christmas; elsewhere, gift giving is limited to January 5 or 6 (or December 24-25). In Western churches, Epiphany celebrates the coming of the magi.  Adapted from umcdiscipleship.org

A GIFT FOR JESUS
We enjoy giving to those we love at Christmas!  Have you ever thought about what you might give to Jesus in honor of His birth? In keeping with this thought, we are offering “Gold Boxes” for you to pick up and pray about. You are invited to return your “Gold Box” during the hymn following the Advent reading and place it in the manger. Your church thanks each of you for your generous giving all year round.  If you have a small child or grandchild, please allow them to take part in this sweet remembrance by placing their gift in the Manger for Jesus.

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

Our new crèche is placed & lit each evening on the front lawn of the Sanctuary.  Enjoy our new tradition and thank you to the combined efforts of church members and our Boy Scouts!
