Disciple Live!
 Deadline to register is TODAY August 18th
 
Your newly trained facilitators: Don Cobb & Jack Dempsey (Wednesday daytime class); Lynda Hawkins & Lisa Dempsey, (Thursday evening class) are eager to begin!
 
The majority of interest was in Disciple 1 for both day and evening.  Classes will begin the week of September 3
Signing up at the information table will assure us that you are prepared to start and put you on the email list for important information about your first class date and details.

Yet another part of the Vision to grow disciples!  Coming September 27 & 28 we will be hosting a Prayer Labyrinth weekendwith time for walking, praying & learning from guest speaker, Dr. John Rhodes, past President of the Labyrinth Society. 
 
To prepare for this weekend, I encourage those interested in planning for this September weekend to join us.  Join us TODAY – SUNDAY, August 18, at 12:15 in the Worship Center.  Help make this yet another Vision come to life – following God’s path together!

AUGUST 4th – 120/60? Blood pressure is a helpful indicator of how our body is doing! Your Nurture team will begin offering Blood pressure checks the first Sunday of each month in the Church office from 10:10 to 10:50. Our first Sunday will be August 4th. Our 3RD Annual Missions Dinner & Silent Auction

TICKETS ARE GOING QUICKLY!
Theme – Hawaiian luau!
Menu – chicken, pork, stir-fry vegetables, jasmine rice, delicious desserts, and other special Hawaiian treats.
 
All proceeds to benefit our three missionary families:
The Houles serving in Thailand;
The Haddens serving in South Dakota; and
The Stotlers serving in South Africa and continuing their work with the TMS Global Church team and involvement with children’s literacy here in the states.
 
Both the Silent Auction and the Hawaiian Luau starts at 6:00pm,  Saturday, August 17th  -Tickets are on sale now!  $10 – Adult, $5 – Children under 12

Delve into the book of Luke this summer to hear some great advice from the Master.  Luke’s stories give concrete instruction as he answers questions from learned scholars, disciples and people in the crowd.  Don’t you have questions?  Join with this varied audience to listen, reflect and learn what Jesus offers on how to live the Best life!

The infallibility and inerrancy of biblical teaching does not, however, guarantee the infallibility and inerrancy of any interpretation or interpreter of that teaching; nor does the recognition of its qualities as the Word of God in any way prejudge the issue as to what Scripture does, in fact, assert. This can be determined only by careful Bible study.

Disciple Live! We have newly trained facilitators eager to start one of the most well known and loved Bible Studies this fall! 
 
Disciple 1 is the entryway course to all studies. We will follow the school year, with breaks for holidays, and complete in the spring. Following Disciple 1 will be Disciple 2, 3 & 4, Jesus in the Gospels and Christian Believer are all potential classes depending on your interest.  Age 16 and up welcome!  Questions? New Ministry with our Child Care!

In addition to our Mission Camp which is co-sponsored and held at the First UMC in Newnan on July 23-25 (Tues.-Thurs.) from 9am-2pm, the Cokes Chapel United Methodist Women (UMW) will be sponsoring a Jr. Mission Camp for K-2nd graders on the same dates, titled “TAKING CARE OF GOD’S CREATION”.  It will be through the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center and will be held from 9:00-11: 15 am.

 

Our CCCC children will be exploring God’s world through scripture, song, Bible stories, crafts, games and, of course, snacks, like eating “dirt and worms”! They will make the connection between God’s wonderful creation and how they can help take care of the earth, the animals, and the people.

 

Cokes Chapel UMW ladies are in need of a little assistance on or before July 23, 24, 25.

1.     Volunteers – Call or email V. Snyder (770) 304-6563 or vcsnyder@bellsouth.net to donate your time one or more days (teachers will also be present!).

DONATE:

2.   35 clean, ½-gallon milk jugs with label removed and cap secured. Children will be recycling and creating a watering jug from the milk jugs; 

3.   Prepackaged combination toothbrush and toothpaste.  Please purchase a few to help our children pack small bags to hand out to those less fortunate;  

4.   35 paint stir paddles:  Lowe’s or Home Depot will donate 5 or 6 paint paddles per customer. Children will make balloon busters with a “helping hand” paddle.

5.   Other: UMW will also accept any contribution or donation above your normal tithe to assist with  costs.

 

Bins are located in the church narthex for donations. Please put your financial donation in an envelope labeled Jr. Mission Camp (checks should be made to Cokes Chapel UMW).  The UMW ladies thank you for your support, including your prayers for the children and the leaders!  We are excited for this new way to reach out to our neighbors and the children in our community. Questions? YOUTH & ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

PURPOSE:  To help children and youth realize that they are active Christ followers right NOW, making a difference in the world through acts of compassion, giving, and service
WHAT: Kids Mission Camp gives kids the “hands-on” experience of serving others.  Each day we’ll gather at Newnan First UMC for worship, bible study, and participation in a different service project. 
WHO: Rising 3rd -6th Grade Students (Parents are also welcome to volunteer!); Middle School Youth, Rising 7th-9th Grade, are invited to serve as Small Group Leaders
WHEN: July 23-25; 8:30am Check-in, 9am – 2pm Camp
Mission/Service Projects: Theme—“Created to Care;” Service Projects will focus on caring for the earth, caring for God’s creatures, and caring for one another
COST: $30.00 (includes a T-shirt; financial assistance is available)

DONATIONS NEEDED

UMCOR Hygiene Kits – Please assist in providing items for our Kids Mission Camp service project of assembling Hygiene Kits for UMCOR.

Items needed by July 21 – please drop in the labeled bins for Kids Mission Camp in the Narthex or Worship center or bring to the church office.

Items Needed include:  

  • Fingernail Clippers
  • Hand Towels (15″x25″ or 17″x27″ – no kitchen towels please)

BRING YOUR PET TO THE BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
On Wednesday, July 24 we will be teaching the kids about the importance of caring for God’s creatures.  Please bring your pet to receive a special “Blessing of the Animals” at First Avenue Park, Newnan.
