G Chat August 6, 2020

Dear Church family,

Worship outside Sunday at the pavilion was the best!  Worshippers and the sound equipment were kept cool!  More picnic tables will be removed from the concrete pad so that you can bring your chair and be seated with social distance.  Once seated, you may take off your mask, and enjoy our time together.  You may also remain in your car and listen to worship on 88.7 FM if that is your preference.

However you choose to join us on Sunday, I pray you will know God’s presence each week with us.  With God’s help, your prayers, and support, we will move through this time with God blessing on our efforts.

Thank you for continuing to show hospitality and concern for one another by adhering to our guidelines of social distancing, wearing masks until seated in your chair, as well as other items you can read about below.

In Christ,
Pastor Lisa

**in case of rain, or questions regarding if in-person outdoor worship will be held, refer to the cokeschapel.org website for announcements.  An email will be sent out through Church Wide Mail Chimp to announce rain or other changes.  Be sure you are signed up for our communications!

Cokes Chapel is a mission-minded church, and this time of limited physical serving has been hard.  Many members have asked what they can do – without coming into contact with others.  Here are a few ideas:

–   Backpack Buddies continues to help feed community children. You can find a list of needed foods on their website, or you can make a monetary donation on that site.

–   Back to School Supplies are Needed at One Roof – If you’d like to donate, feel free to drop any supplies off at their location at 255 Temple Avenue, Newnan, GA 30263, from 10 AM to 4 PM Monday – Saturday.

–   Meals on Wheels of Coweta has been delivering meals two days a week all summer.  These deliveries include enough food for the week. Our Cokes Chapel team will resume our volunteering with this group when safely possible. Monetary donations are appreciated.

–   We continue regular support of our three missionary families, the Houles, the Haddens, and Caleb Earle. Please include them in your daily prayers.

– If you have any questions or ideas, please contact Betsy and Earl Bagley. ebbagley@gmaill.com

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE REPORT

July snapshot of budget vs income:
Budgeted Funds/Income needed monthly= $22,400.00 (projected expenses)
Final General Funds/Income collected as of July 30, 2020= $13,534.29

August snapshot of budget vs income:
July 31-August 5, 2020 General Funds/Income collected = $9322.30

Background:
July represented the first time since March the church has been responsible for the Childcare and Youth House/Land (bank deferment on both loans) as well as Pastor Lisa’s Healthflex insurance payment. It is important for our folks to remain faithful.  Finance has requested that spending be kept at a minimum, and only essential spending takes place.

Unfortunately, we have not received rent from the Parsonage since March until this month ($1000 per month).  As a church, we needed to help our neighbor in her time of crisis.  Childcare contributed $3000 towards that shortfall and we are deeply grateful for their generosity. Childcare also contributed $3000 towards the repair of the church roof.  Again, we are grateful.  We did have some additional unexpected expenses in July including plumbing problems at the parsonage and an emergency septic problem on a Sunday morning, also at the parsonage.  Utilities, mortgages, bus loan, salaries, and insurance premiums have been paid for July along with additional added expenses from the Parsonage.  The septic bill will be taken care of out of August funds.  Thanks, program chairs for your diligence in cutting expenses.

We will apply for PPP Loan forgiveness sometime this month or August.  Trustees and Finance have begun to work on refinance documents for the Childcare and the Youth House/Land.  We will keep you posted on both of these events as they occur.

These are difficult times and most of us are just tired of the whole situation.  However, we have read the end of the story…a risen Lord that represents HOPE.  We are truly EASTER people. Find your heart’s treasure and give generously! Let us continue to believe God is in control.  And, above all, please pray for guidance!
Vivian Snyder, Finance Chair

A Note to the Cokes Family:
Dear family,
I pray that you look at our finance reports each week.  Even in this season of tremendous upheaval, our weekly and monthly giving reports reflect your faithfulness in giving back to God. Thank you for your prayerful, consistent giving during this challenging time.  Regular giving promotes a stable financial picture, allowing us to focus on serving, praying, and expanding our reach for Jesus Christ.

Important news:  Trustees and Finance are now preparing Cokes Chapel to renew our loan for the Child Care Center and Youth House.  The bank will review our financial picture and other aspects of the church.  At this time, particularly, it is important to reflect consistent, stable giving.

Would you take the time to consider your pattern of giving?  If you have not been giving, would you consider beginning now?  If you have been giving but stopped since worship patterns changed, would you begin again?  If you would like to make a one time gift to address the July shortfall, or a gift towards the loan pay down, Cokes Chapel is in a crucial time for us to step forward with the long view of our fiscal responsibilities.  God has been faithful and so many have given faithfully to bring us this far!  We trust in God to direct our paths in every facet of ministry, especially in our financial decisions.

Thank you for honoring God, giving generously, and taking part in continuing to build God’s kingdom!
In Christ, Pastor Lisa

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, August 5, 2020:

In this week’s Inter-generational Sunday School lesson, Jesus gives his perspective on wealth in Luke 12:13-21.  The theme for the week is the right priorities, acknowledging the struggle between generosity and self-sufficiency. If you would like to be included in the email list and receive this lesson, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.
In Youth Ministry, our Youth and their families provided and served an appreciation lunch for the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center teachers and staff on August 5th.   This weekend, we will be gathering for our first “in-person” get-together on Saturday, August 8th.  We will be meeting outside at the Youth House for a special time of catching up and fellowship.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, and apart!
With love,
Kim
(Kim Reindl, Director of Inter-generational, Youth & Children’s Discipleship; kim.reindl@gmail.com)

Dear Church family,
I am happy to report we have been able to worship outside three Sundays. It is so good to be together! We even had a visitor!

We now meet across the street from the sanctuary at the pavilion.  This location allows our sound equipment to keep cool, and worshippers to sit in shade. As we learn the shade patterns, seating in the yard will be more defined, as well as limited seating under the pavilion.

Whether you join us for online worship, at Drive-In Worship, in the car listening on 88.7 FM or on the grounds in chairs, I pray that you will embrace God’s presence each week with us.  With God’s help, your prayers and grace, we will move through this time with God overshadowing and blessing on our efforts.

Thank you for continuing to show hospitality and concern for one another by adhering to our guidelines of social distancing, wearing masks until seated in your chair, as well as other items you can read about below.
In Christ,

See below:

            Budgeted Funds/Income needed monthly= $22,400.00
            General Funds/Income collected as of July 29, 2020= $13,459.29

=======
A Note to the Cokes Family:
Dear family,
I pray you are reviewing our finance reports each week.  Even in this season of tremendous upheaval, our weekly and monthly giving reports reflect your faithfulness in giving back to God. Thank you for your prayerful, consistent giving during this challenging time.  When you give regularly it allows Cokes Chapel to continue to focus on serving, praying and looking for ways to expand our reach for Jesus Christ.

Thank you for remembering God is at work all the time through you and your church! Thank you for honoring God, giving generously and taking part in continuing to build God’s kingdom!
In Christ, Pastor Lisa

Cokes Chapel UMC Childcare Jr. Mission Camp:

A team of church ladies agreed to provide a 3-day Jr. Mission Camp for the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center.  The Camp focused on “Let Your Little Light Shine for Jesus” with your LOVE, with your GIFTS and with your HELP HANDS.  We had about 65-70 children daily ranging from 1 year old to 4 years old. We spent several hours each morning singing, dancing and attempting to create some type of related craft like a heart-shaped suncatcher, a giving bank, and a helping-hand sunburst.   We created a related hat each day, we read a related story (HOW MUCH DO I LOVE YOU and FILL A BUCKET) two days and watched a video (“Giving is Better than Getting”) on one day, we made and used several different instruments like a tambourine and shakers to sing and dance.  They loved the shakers because they made the most noise!!!  Whew!!!!
A big shout-out to the Childcare classroom teachers and assistants while we were in the classroom.  We could not have done this without their classroom management, knowledge and skills.  We saw these children bow their heads and sing their prayer prior to eating and we heard them sing some of the familiar VBS songs like Jesus Loves Me and Rise and Shine.
It was a blessing to deliver God’s word, no matter how elementary, to His precious gifts.  They are precious in His sight and represent our future.  Team: Brenda Hanes, Vivian Snyder, Arianna Smith, and Nancy Vermilyea; a special thank you to Dee Croft for her assistance and expertise.

 MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL, YOUTH & CHILDREN’S MINISTRY, July 29, 2020:

This week in Children’s Ministry we are offering our 5th Annual Kid’s Mission Camp (KMC)!  For five years Cokes Chapel has been in partnership with Newnan First UMC to develop this unique offering (our form of VBS) that allows kids to serve others, empowering them to realize that they are active followers of Jesus Christ making a difference in the world right now!  This year we adapted the camp design so that children could engage in an “at-home” camp with their families.  Also, we are delighted to report of continuing participation from our Cokes Chapel Childcare Center, with a Junior camp being led in classrooms.

All participants of KMC have been given a Camp Kit with supplies and instructions for the daily mission projects (to be done at home or in the classrooms), focusing on our theme, “Let the light of God’s love shine through you!” (Matthew 5:14-16).  Throughout the three day camp, kids are encouraged to love and serve others through the giving of their hearts, minds/resources, and strength (Luke 10:27).  Daily videos have been sent to participants helping them relate to the daily theme and Scripture, leading them through devotion and prayer, and offering them instructions for their daily mission project.

We are excited that 55 kids are participating in Kid’s Mission Camp this year (20 from our churches and 35 from the Childcare Center)!  In addition, Vivian Snyder, along with Brenda Hanes, Nancy Vermilyea, Arianna Smith and Dee Croft offered a “Junior Camp” at the Childcare Center for preschoolers ages 1-4 years.  Overall, over 120 kids are being embraced and empowered by God’s love this week as a result of our ministries!  Praise God for the light that will shine forth this week and in the week’s to come because of the generosity, gifts, and talents of the Cokes Chapel and Newnan First faith families!

This week’s Intergenerational Sunday School lesson is the story of Jesus’ meeting with the woman at the well, found in John 4:1-42.  The theme for the week is reconciliation. If you would like to be included in the email list and receive this lesson, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

Finally, in Youth Ministry, plans are underway to arrange for an in-person Youth gathering before the start of school.  Also, our Youth will be serving the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center through providing for a special teacher lunch on August 5th, as well as by providing videos of story time, songs, music, or crafts that can be used by CCCC teachers as ways to enhance classroom experience for the children.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, and apart!
With love,
Kim

Dear Church family,
As we continue to work within our circumstances of the pandemic, I am happy to report that we have been able to worship outside two Sundays!  Yes, it is hot, but hey, we can do that for a short time!  It is good to see those able to be out, even if it is at a distance. We will continue to learn – heat is hard on our music equipment.  We are working on resolving what steps that will take to have good sound for you.

Again, we are learning together – but with your prayers and grace, we will move through this time with every bit of God’s presence and blessing over our efforts.

Thank you for helping us show hospitality, concern for one another by adhering to our guidelines of social distancing, wearing masks until seated in your chair, as well as other items you will read about below.
In Christ,
Pastor Lisa

The final sermon in our series: This week we will finish by learning about the epic encounter that Elijah stirs up with King Ahab and his god, Baal.  It involves fire, water and a good bit of chiding on Elijahs part.  One of the great Old Testament stories!  See you Sunday!

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE REPORT

Committee on Finance -Finance meetings are open meetings. Our next meeting will be on August 20 at 6:30 PM.

July snapshot of budget vs income:
            Budgeted Funds needed monthly= $22,400.00
General Funds collected as of July 15, 2020= $12,514.29

We continue to thank each of you for your prayerful and consistent giving during this challenging time.  Your church is still serving, praying and looking for ways to expand our reach for Jesus Christ.

Some of you have utilized the office door slot to drop off your giving.  We also want to make it easy to give on line by using our Onrealm giving portal located on our website, cokeschapel.org.  Our main page offers you a giving link.  Click on that, and then select the “Tithes and Offering” tab seen below. This easy registration will lead you through how to give either on a one time or regular basis.  It’s a safe, protected way to give!

There are also options to give to the “communion offering” which supports our Needy Family Fund, as well as special offerings that occur throughout the year.

Whichever way you give, in person or on line, your giving makes a big difference to the stability and sustaining the ministry of your church.  Summer months can find us a bit stretched, however your faithfulness is continuing to show how we trust and move forward. Thank you for honoring God, giving generously and taking part in continuing to build God’s kingdom!
In Christ, Pastor Lisa

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE REPORT

Committee on Finance meeting tonight, July 16 in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30 PM.

Committee on Finance -Finance meetings are open meetings/next meeting will be on August 20 at 6:30 PM.

July snapshot of budget vs income:
            Budgeted Funds needed monthly= $22,400.00
General Funds collected as of July 15, 2020= $9,884.29

The Committee on Finance would like to once again recognize the faithfulness of our congregation and thank God for His generosity.  We are truly blessed!!!  We would also like to thank Program Chairs for honoring the recommendations from Finance last month regarding spending.  During this unusual and challenging time, we need to work together honoring and praying for wisdom as we navigate through the next several months.

I hope those of you that didn’t make it to the parking lot worship service on Sunday, will make the effort to attend this Sunday.  It was wonderful to hear Lisa preach the word face to face, Brenda play the keyboard and listen to Brian and Keith pick and sing!!!  It was a new experience for me…to worship outside under God’s blue sky…it was glorious!!!!  I hope you will come and worship face to face.  Oh by the way, I did request that we pass the plate this coming Sunday.

JUNIOR MISSION CAMP:

PLEASE READ THIS  VERY, VERY SPECIAL REQUEST:  Cokes Chapel Childcare has asked Cokes Chapel members to create a Jr. Mission Camp similar to the one UMW did last year with the 3rd-5th graders.  It was a huge success for the teachers and the students absolutely loved it!!!!  This year we have been asked to create a Jr. Mission Camp for 1, 2 year, 3 year and 4 year old children (babies).

We are depending on volunteers to do the Mission Camp.  We expect about 70 children and are creating plans that will engage these “littles” for 1 & 1/2 hours for 3 days.  Remembering that this age has a very short attention span!  We plan to use multiple activities to keep little bitty hands busy and engaged.

We are asking for special donations with supplies that connect the theme: “Let the Light of God’s LOVE Shine Through You!”  Our focus is on LOVE, GIVING and HELPING.

We are in need of the following if you can help us:

4 tubes of some really strong glue – E6000 general purpose 3.7 fl oz industrial strength)
           $7-8 a tube (shop it on-line or Michael’s)

4 board books at a cost of about $12.00 per book (HOW Full IS YOUR Bucket?  Hardcover)

Supplies Cost is expected to be $100 to $150 including paper, paper plates, cardboard rolls, bells, cardboard banks, crayons, board books, wax paper, rubber bands, and various other needs.

We are also looking for 4 people to assist, who have met the security requirements, to be in the classrooms with a teacher…we need all the help we can get.  We are planning meaningful times with lots of activities and songs i.e. Rise and Shine, the B I B L E, Jesus Loves Me, Let My Little Light Shine plus many more.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make your check out to:
Cokes Chapel UMC and designate CCC JR. MISSION CAMP. Or, of course, we will accept cash.   And if you would like to help one, two or three days, please contact V. Snyder at vcsnyder@bellsouth.net.

Thank you in advance for giving and serving as you are able!  LOLOVE

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL AND YOUTH MINISTRY, July 15, 2020:

This week’s Inter-generational Sunday School lesson is the story of the rich tax collector, Zacchaeus, found in Luke 19:1-10.  Even though Jesus has much to say about the corruption often perpetrated by people like Zacchaeus, he finds in Zacchaeus an opening to the transformative teachings of God. This story prompts us to consider the themes of inclusion, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
If you would like to be included in the email list and receive the lesson each week, please contact Kim Reindl at kim.reindl@gmail.com.  Each lesson includes commentary to help enlighten your study, questions for thought and reflection, as well as an optional activity that can be done at home with children and/or youth.

In Children’s Ministry, plans are underway to offer our 5th Annual Kid’s Mission Camp!  In partnership with Newnan First UMC, we are developing an “at-home camp” this year that children can engage in with their families.  The three day camp will offer daily video devotions for kids, as well as daily mission projects.  This is a great opportunity for families to engage in serving others together!  The virtual component will also allow involvement from kids who live out of town (grandparents may want to sign-up out of town grandkids; let Kim know so that you can forward a supply list)! Register NOW to receive video links and a FREE Camp Kit!  REGISTRATION LINK:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1dAAmCwO_p_Het1C6h1nY0PAgLjeUFEGzkfNTPqE0DTo/edit?ts=5f04820a

In Youth Ministry, we held a Zoom meeting last Sunday as a way of checking-in and discussing future possibilities.  Plans are underway to arrange for an in-person Youth gathering before the start of school.  Also, our Youth will be serving the Cokes Chapel Childcare Center through food donations for a special teacher lunch, as well as by providing videos of story time, songs, music, or crafts that can be used by CCCC teachers as ways to enhance classroom experience for the children.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we journey together, and apart!
With love,
Kim
(Kim Reindl, Director of Inter-generational, Youth & Children’s Discipleship; kim.reindl@gmail.com)
