Growing Our Faith…and    A Note from Pastor Lisa

Financial Snapshot for April, 2021
Monthly projected operating funds needed: $21,783

Actual operating funds collected as of April 20th: $14,721.40

A Note from Pastor Lisa

Dear Cokes Family:

Last week I wrote about how our lives have been impacted by COVID.  I included an “ask” for you to review your giving to Cokes Chapel.

Talking about money is “touchy”.  We get our guard up, feel threatened, resist anyone speaking of something so personal.  Maybe that is why Jesus spoke about money so often. Did you know that “sixteen of the thirty-eight parables were concerned with how to handle money and possessions. In the Gospels, an amazing one out of ten verses (288 in all) deal directly with the subject of money. The Bible offers 500 verses.” *

I think Jesus referred to treasures and storehouses because we all see money as a way to security, for provision in all times.  We spend much of our time addressing the concerns that accompany money because, well, because it makes life… better.

This is a big subject, so let me narrow it down a bit:  the Lord knows our needs, we know that God will provide and show us the way to be good stewards in every aspect of life.  I prayerfully ask you to reflect on your stewardship.  It’s between you and God.  And if you can, and feel led step up, catch up or start giving to Cokes ministry, now is a good time.

In my heart, it’s not about what Cokes needs, so much as it is about what you have the privilege to give. All our resources come from God, don’t they?  We are just stewards of God’s goodness.

Each and every one of you has a part in the kingdom work.  You are loved!  Thank you for the many ways you generously give.

Peace,

Lisa

“No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Luke 16: 13

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, April 20, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Inter-generational Sunday School Class has begun meeting in-person once again!  On Sunday mornings, we are gathering before worship in the Worship Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  Everyone is welcome! (The church’s COVID guidelines for in-person gatherings will be followed.  Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing.)  This month we are exploring what it means to live into God’s call to be holy.  This coming Sunday, April 25th, we will study 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 and discuss how holiness encompasses heart, mind, and body.

In Youth Ministry, we began construction on the Memorial Butterfly Garden for Mia Jordan.  Last Sunday the foundation was constructed for the area, which is located next to the Cokes Chapel Labyrinth.  This Sunday the youth will be planting plants for the garden.

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

A Note on Giving from Pastor Lisa

Dear Cokes family,
Each of us has endured this long and hard journey through the pandemic in various ways.  It has affected us on every level; emotionally, physically and spiritually.  As you saw from the March offerings the giving dropped significantly from our average.  You may be financially struggling.  Your church is not yet in dire straits, however it is important that we call attention to the needs of your church home.  Throughout the pandemic Cokes was in ministry, and as we resume, we are ramping up in every way to regain footing in many areas.
Your participation in worship, mission, ministry and giving is vital to the good health and return to “normalcy” in every way.  I know you each wish that for your life and for your faith community.  Please review your giving.  If you have not been giving because you are not attending, remember that the work and ministry keeps on, and needs your support.  If you find that you need to “Catch Up”, consider that now would be a good time to do so.  Most of all, whatever you give or do, I pray that you will do it with a joyful heart!  We are blessed to be stewards for the God of resurrection and new life!  We are Easter people!
Love Pastor Lisa

Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Thank you for supporting Cokes Chapel!  We are honored you would bless us with your generosity!

MINISTRY MESSAGE:  INTER-GENERATIONAL & YOUTH MINISTRY, April 7, 2021:

In Inter-generational Ministry, the Inter-generational Sunday School Class will resume meeting in-person this Sunday morning, April 11th.  We will gather before worship in the After-School Room of the Childcare Center from 8:40-9:40 AM.  Everyone is welcome! (The church’s COVID guidelines for in-person gatherings will be followed.  Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing.)  This month we will begin a unit exploring what it means to live into God’s call to be holy.  This Sunday, we will study Leviticus 19:2 and discuss how holiness is not about moral perfection, but rather about being uniquely united with God.

Our youth are on Spring Break this week!  Upon their return, during April, we will be working on the new Butterfly Garden next to the Cokes Chapel Labyrinth.  Also, we will announce plans for our rescheduled Car Wash Fundraiser.  More information to come this month!

God is at work all around us!  May we hold each other by heart and lift each other by prayer as we seek to follow in the way of Christ!

With love,
Kim

Let us join in prayer together:
Lord, as we follow your journey to the cross this Holy Week, we become mindful of your commitment to save us through your suffering, death, and obedience to bring humanity into a new life.  We come in humility, remembering your silence.  We remember your tears in the garden.  We approach Easter with fresh eyes as we slow down to honor each moment.  In moments of terrible suffering, we accept that you are with us in our sufferings.  Christ has bonded to all humanity with Divine love.  As Easter bursts upon the world, may we find deeper joy, more love that offers grace and spirits that that sing to Your Glory! Amen.

I would like to thank everyone for the cards, messages and beautiful flowers during the loss of my mother last week.  Your prayers, love and support mean so very much!
Much love to you all,
Brenda Minter

Show our Shut-ins some Love!  A note from you would brighten their day and make a difference.  You don’t even have to “know” them, just sign the card, “your Coke’s Chapel Family”.

Consider sending one card each week to rotate through the list, and let the Cokes Chapel love shine out!
