DON’T FORGET FRESH FLOWERS FOR THE CROSS!!

Sermon Series “Living into a Grace Filled LIFE” Sundays, May 5 thru June 2, Grace is an essential and integral part of our relationship with God and with one another.  Grace is part of faith, salvation and our way of growing into true followers.  We will explore the nature of God’s grace, Encounter some of the ways God expressed grace in the Old Testament, and then moving into the New Testament, how Jesus Christ revealed God’s grace.

Got a Grace Moment? Following Easter, we will have a series on Grace and how it is an integral part of our faith, experience and witness to God at work in our lives.  Sharing these moments can open up our own awareness and encourage others to see how God shares grace with them.  If you have a Moment of Grace you would share (such as) when you felt God’s forgiveness, or perhaps you have felt or experienced emotional, spiritual or physical healing that represents God’s grace to you.  Speak with Pastor Lisa or email at ldempsey@cokeschapel.org to participate in this special time of witnessing for God to our community!

Backpack Buddies If you would like to help pack food for the Backpack Buddies, please sign the sheet in the narthex or Worship Center.  We will meet at the headquarters on Werz Industrial Blvd. at 7:00 on April 24th.  Please join us!

Eagle Scout Reminds Us of a Deep-Rooted History
On May 5th, 2019 (Sunday) at 3:30PM-4:15PM, Eagle Scout, Venturing Summit, Ranger Award Recipient, and VFW Scout of the Year, Cormac McCarthy, along with his Scouts BSA Troop 2193, Venturing Crew 2193, and members of Cokes Chapel UMC, will be conducting a dedication ceremony.

McCarthy designed & commissioned an engraved granite monolith. “The Monolith” names the slaves believed to have been buried in the unmarked graveyard, behind the Cokes Chapel Sanctuary. Many of the names were found through probate court records, dated before President Abraham Lincoln declared an executive order, freeing all slaves. This was done by the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st of 1863.

After extensive research, McCarthy reached out to Michael and Karen Lassetter from the “Coweta Monument” company, to start the ordering process of “The Monolith”. To which was said: “In a time when so many are tearing down monuments, and statues, Cormac McCarthy found a way to put a monument up.” (Coweta Monument) To find out more about this project and our Scouts, we hope you come to the dedication ceremony.

Earlier in the day on May 5th, 2019 (Sunday) at 10:00AM-2:30PM, you can come for food and fellowship, as the Old Goats of Cokes Chapel UMC make and prepare their famous BBQ Plate w/ drink for only $10.00 a plate! The annual BBQ is a fund raiser for the Church, and you will not want to miss it! Cokes Chapel UMC is located at 4096 Lower Fayetteville Road in Sharpsburg and is one of the oldest churches in Coweta County.

“We hope you will come out to support our Church and our local Scouts, as we aim for Character, Citizenship, and Leadership above all. Thank you!” (McCarthy)
